Michigan Energy Options (MEO), a nonprofit, has been serving the community since 1978. We pursue daily our mission of guiding communities toward being more sustainable and resilient through the adoption of energy efficiency and renewable energy. We do so by providing our unbiased expertise and research, our results-driven programs and our collaborations with decision makers, business leaders and residents of Michigan.
The Community Energy Specialist plays an important role in promoting energy efficiency within the Lansing community. The specialist will engage directly with residents and small businesses to assess energy consumption, provide tailored recommendations, and directly install energy-saving products. The specialist will also play a key role in community outreach by promoting the program at events, retail visits, and by connecting with local partners. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the Lansing community's diverse and vulnerable populations and a strong commitment to client service. This is a hybrid position which requires access to internet services that can support provided equipment such as Voice Over IP phones, laptop, and tablet.
While prior experience is beneficial, it's not a strict requirement. This position would be ideal for individuals with an interest in energy conservation or advocating for low-income communities.
- Conduct basic energy assessments of homes and small businesses.
- Engage and foster positive relationships with local communities within the Lansing area.
- Communicate to clients the opportunities for improving energy efficiency in their buildings.
- Directly install products that help reduce energy consumption and save money.
- Document each visit, including generating reports for clients.
- Perform outreach activities through events and site visits, occasionally outside of normal business hours.
- Maintain a record of product inventory and identify items that need to be replenished.
- Customer-focused with the ability to interact with and provide guidance to Lansing-area residents.
- Proven time management skills with the ability to meet deliverables and deadlines.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Training will be available for the qualified candidate.
- Flexibility to learn to new programs as needed.
- Must have and be willing to use a personal vehicle for job-related tasks and responsibilities.
