Position Overview:
The Commercial Advisor - Lead is an experienced analyst who is considered a subject matter expert and business partner. This role provides financial and commercial support to the Marketing & Sales organization. The ideal candidate should be a self-starter who can work independently and serve as an informal leader within the finance team. Although this role reports to Finance, it is embedded within the Marketing & Sales business.
The Commercial Advisor will be an excellent communicator, capable of engaging with all levels of the business, including the M&S Leadership Team. The successful candidate will need to be detail-oriented while also being able to think broadly in a dynamic environment.
This position is located at our corporate headquarters in Downtown Houston, TX.
Responsibilities:
•Responsible for reviewing large/multi-site Branded and Unbranded Deals to support the economics of the value to the Marketing & Sales business.
•Lead the annual business plan by partnering with the business in preparing the 3-year operational business plan incorporating the strategy and company’s assumptions
•Ability to assess market conditions and correlate to the current financial performance
•Responsible for coordination of the monthly financial reporting
•Responsible for the DOA for both M&S Fuels and Base Oils ensuring that DOA is reviewed and updated at least annually
•Analyze complex financial data, assess accuracy, and make recommendations to enhance business processes
•Perform analytical work, involving the identification, compilation, and documentation of Marketing & Sales expenditures, for purposes of providing comprehensive performance results, key insights to inform organization on results and forecast future outcomes
•Responsible for developing financial modeling, decision reporting, and ad-hoc analysis to support the Marketing & Sales project/deal decision making process.
•Drive and support continuous process improvements through comprehensive understanding, change management, and documentation for sustainability
•Research and prepare evaluations on a variety of projects/problems to include but not limited to financial trends & analysis, operational and grant analysis
•Able to manage multiple high priority projects and assigned task simultaneously
•Follow and conduct audit processes and review internal controls to ensure financial transactions are accurate, timely and comply with accounting standards, principles and company policy
•Develop processes and procedures to review 3rd party financials/contracts with M&S business partners
•Highlight issues proactively and drive items to resolution
•Maintain superior working knowledge of data and information resources
•Work with Off-Shore/On-Shore team to ensure accuracy of financial statements and identify and manage the transition of processes to the Off-Shore/On-Shore team
Experience and Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:
•Bachelor's degree in Finance or a related Business field.
•A minimum of 10 years in Accounting, Finance, or Business (Commercial) positions preferred.
•Working knowledge of financial systems, including MSAP and the Microsoft suite of programs, or the ability to learn quickly.
•Strong interpersonal skills to network and influence others outside the finance organization.
•Ability to perform high-quality work within deadlines with minimal direct supervision.
•Strong analytical skills with the ability to consume large amounts of information and translate it into useful recommendations.
