Position Title: Civil Engineer – Gas Utility Construction
Reports To: Vice President of Construction Location: Cypress, Texas FLSA Status: Exempt
The Civil Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, planning, and execution of natural gas utility construction projects across Texas. Working under the direction of the Vice President of Construction, this role provides engineering expertise in technical analysis, design development, permitting, and field inspections. The position ensures projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory and quality standards.
- Prepare engineering drawings, site layouts, and construction plans for natural gas utility projects.
- Perform engineering calculations for grading, pipe sizing, materials, and load capacities.
- Review and interpret survey data, soil reports, and utility maps to support design decisions.
- Develop and assist in managing schedules, budgets, and scopes of work.
- Prepare permit applications, regulatory filings, and submittals.
- Provide engineering support on projects involving conflicts with existing gas facilities, developing solutions and mitigation plans.
- Collaborate with contractors, vendors, and utility partners to resolve technical issues.
- Conduct site visits, inspections, and construction observation to verify compliance with plans and specifications.
- Document field conditions, change orders, and as-built information.
- Support and enforce quality control and safety compliance on active job sites.
- Maintain accurate project files, calculations, and engineering records.
- Prepare technical reports, meeting notes, and project status updates for leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field (required).
- EIT (Engineer-in-Training) certification required; Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas preferred.
- 2–5 years of experience in utility, pipeline, or civil construction required.
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles and utility infrastructure design.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Monday.com) a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and regulatory documents.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Valid Texas driver’s license with ability to travel up to 20% within the state.
- Company vehicle provided for work-related travel.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and around active construction sites.
- Frequent standing, walking, and site inspections on uneven terrain.
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to wear required PPE, including hard hat, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots.
