Job Summary:
•Maintain Quality Control & Assurance programs
•Conduct Task surveys for Quality Assurance
•Operate sample preparation equipment and analytical instrumentation to determine analyte concentrations
•Maintain, calibrate, and repair analytical equipment
•Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with company and MSHA standards
•Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures
•Ability to effectively communicate needed repairs or tasks
•Experience in supervising a workgroup of 5 or more employees
•Team player, positive, effective leadership, and good interpersonal skills
Essential Functions:
•Tasks typically involve:
•Develop, edit, and write SOPs
•Supervision of laboratory technicians through safety, planning, training, and development
•Maintain QA/QC using Thompson-Howarth statistical analysis for precision
•Prepare action plans for outliers
•Review of laboratory procedures for precision deviations
•Prepare internal standards for short term drift analysis
•Maintain database and excel worksheets for technicians
•Maintain calibration for Thermo OES
•Assist laboratory technicians with consumable supplies
•Maintain Round Robin with external laboratories
•Perform laboratory tests in order to produce reliable and precise data
•Carry out routine tasks accurately and following strict methodologies
•Prepare blast hole samples by crushing and pulverizing
•Construct, maintain and operate standard laboratory equipment. For example, Atomic Absorption, centrifuges, titrators, pipetting machines and pH meters
•Ensure the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced
•Record and interpret analytical results to ensure quality
•Use computers to input analysis
•Demonstrate competence in adherence to procedures
•Follow and ensure strict safety procedures and safety checks
•Collect Samples as required
•Prepare and melt copper cathode samples within 1600 Celsius oven
•Other duties as assigned
Minimum Job Requirements:
•Degree in Chemistry or closely related field.
•Previous supervisory experience of scientific research or analytical laboratory
•Knowledge and experience in operation and calibration of Thermo Optical Emission Spectrometer
•Experience in developing methods for optimal performance of atomic absorption analysis for multiple elements
•Two years in a quality assurance/quality control laboratory (college laboratory class work may substitute for industrial experience)
•Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products, especially Access and Excel
•Must be proficient in Visual Basic programming
•Proficiency in Mass Balance Equations including Bronsted and Lewis Balances
RECOMMENDED KNOWLEDGE SKILS AND ABILITIES (KSA) REQUIRED:
•General knowledge of inorganic chemistry, including mass balance
•Background in development and implementation of quality control and assurance methods
•Ability to operate and maintain reverse osmosis water purification system
•Experience in performing chemical titrations, use of pH meters, and Atomic Absorption instruments
•Ability to stay on task and complete assigned work in a timely manner
•Ability to become part of a positive peer culture while working in a team environment
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
•Ability to lift, stoop and climb.
•Ability to repetitiously lift up to 50 lbs.
•Procedures are repetitive and include fine and gross skills
•Must be able to stand all day (10 hr. shift)
