Role Description:
The Junior Chemist will assist in the formulation, testing, and development of epoxy, polyurethane, and other polymer-based coatings. This role provides hands-on experience with laboratory testing, material analysis, and product development. The Junior Chemist will work closely with Senior Chemists, the Technical Manager, and Sales & Marketing teams, gaining expertise in coatings chemistry and application testing while developing the skills necessary to advance within the organization.
Responsibilities:
•Assist in the formulation and testing of epoxy, vinyl ester, unsaturated polyester, and polyurethane coatings.
•Conduct application and performance testing to evaluate coating properties.
•Learn to operate, maintain, and calibrate lab equipment such as thermal analysis instruments, rheometers, FTIR, GC, EIS, salt fog chambers, and QUV weathering testers.
•Collect, organize, and interpret experimental data to support product development.
•Support new product development projects under the guidance of senior chemists.
•Document research findings, formulations, and test results in technical reports.
•Follow laboratory safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
•Assist in troubleshooting coating formulation challenges and recommending solutions.
•Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Production, Quality Control, and Technical Service.
•Communicate lab results through reports, emails, and presentations as needed.
•Engage in professional development to enhance technical knowledge of coatings and polymer science.
Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
•Understanding of polymer chemistry and structure-property relationships.
•Hands-on experience with laboratory testing and formulation is a plus.
•Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
•Effective communication skills for reporting results and collaborating with teams.
•Must be authorized to work in the United States
