The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a

Chemist I

to join our

Glencore Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations in Greater Sudbury, Ontario.

The position will be based in Falconbridge, Greater Sudbury, Ontario.

This is a full-time, permanent, unionized position.

Work location is not accessible by public transportation.

Duties and Accountabilities:

The Chemist I prepares samples, sets-up equipment, calibrates methods and operates analytical instruments and apparatus that supply vital process control data for Smelter and Mill Operations and Metal Balances. The Chemist I’s reported results directly affect Smelter Electric Furnace flux additions and the safe Electric Furnace block changes. The Chemist I primarily records, calculates, summarizes and reports analytical results to the Smelter CCR via PI entry, flagging results outside of typical ranges. The Chemist I performs instrument calibrations and preparation of samples following analytical methods and QC protocols to ensure accuracy and precision are within acceptable limits.

This is the first full working level in the Chemistry job stream. The incumbent duties cover three laboratory service areas - XRF, LECO and Atomic Absorption analyses and related preparations. Additional preparations and analysis of samples for XPS and the Mill that are within the three service areas are also carried out if required.

Education And Skills

A University or three-year Community College graduation in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, or acceptable equivalent studies and experience plus a minimum of more than two years of relevant experience.

Knowledge of and experience in the theory, practice and techniques of modern analytical instruments - specifically XRF, LECO and Atomic Absorption - and analytical wet chemistry methods. Knowledge and experience in statistical calculations and methods to determine the accuracy, precision and quality of analytical data.
