Certified Welding Inspector

Job Overview

QMF Steel is seeking a highly qualified Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) with extensive knowledge of AWS D1.1 Structural Steel Codes to support our highway component manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will bring proven experience in welding inspection, quality assurance, and compliance monitoring, with preference given to individuals who have worked on state DOT-regulated highway projects. This is a key quality-focused role responsible for ensuring that all structural components meet strict industry, project, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

- Perform inspections and verification of welds in compliance with AWS D1.1 standards and project specifications.

- Oversee and document welding procedures, qualifications, and welder performance testing.

- Ensure all welding activities comply with State Department of Transportation (DOT) and federal regulations.

- Review engineering drawings, welding symbols, and technical specifications to verify accuracy and compliance.

- Prepare detailed inspection reports, maintain accurate quality documentation, and support customer/third-party audits.

- Collaborate with production teams, engineers, and quality control staff to identify and resolve welding-related issues.

- Provide guidance and training to welding personnel to maintain code compliance and best practices.

- Enforce company and industry safety standards at all times.

Qualifications and Requirements:

- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) – current and active certification required.

- Demonstrated expertise with AWS D1.1 Structural Steel Codes.

- Minimum 2 years of relevant inspection experience; highway or structural steel component manufacturing preferred.

- Familiarity with DOT inspection processes, compliance standards, and documentation requirements.

- Strong technical ability to interpret drawings, codes, and welding symbols.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting and collaboration.

- Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality and safety.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30.00 - $32.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
