The Safety and Quality Control Manager is responsible for managing, monitoring, and inspecting shop welding per AWS standards. This position requires interaction with shop personnel, AISC certification auditors, internal project team members, and assists the Plant Manager with tasks and projects as assigned while reporting to the President.
· Welding Inspection: Perform visual checks and oversee third-party, non-destructive testing to ensure weld quality and code compliance.
· Quality Assurance: Support quality control efforts to verify adherence to welding procedures and standards.
· Documentation: Keep accurate records of inspections, non-conformities, and corrective actions.
· Code Compliance: Ensure welding practices align with AISC, AWS, and OSHA standards.
· Collaboration: Partner with welding teams to offer guidance on techniques and best practices.
· Training and Certification: Maintain CWI credentials and provide training to welding personnel as needed.
· Problem Resolution: Identify and resolve welding issues by analyzing root causes and recommending solutions.
· Safety: Promote and enforce safety protocols to prevent accidents and maintain a safe work environment.

· Knowledge of structural steel fabrication and various welding processes such as arc, gas, and resistance welding, with an understanding of their uses, benefits, and limitations.
· Skilled in reading blueprints, including fabrication and erection drawings, and interpreting welding specs.
· Familiar with AISC standards, AWS codes, and structural steel fabrication procedures.
· Knowledgeable on OSHA, BWC safety regulations, and ASTM/AMPP material standards.
· Able to visualize structural components and assemblies.
· Able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines efficiently.
· Clear written and verbal communication across all platforms.
· Willing to obtain Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and/or Certified Welding Supervisor (CWS) certification and Welding Inspector Assistant AWS B5.2.
· Experience inspecting welds per AWSD1.1 and D1.8.
· Proficient use of MS Office and PDF software.
· Additional welding certifications or related degree (bachelor’s preferred)
· Knowledge of construction practices, structural steel fabrication, and applicable codes.
- Physical Demands: This position involves regular movement (sitting, standing, bending) around the facility, frequent use of hands and arms, and clear verbal and written communication. It also includes office work and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
- Work Environment: This position involves exposure to moving mechanical parts and occasional outdoor conditions, with a typically moderate noise level. Overtime, nights and weekends may be required for inspections, training, or investigations. Some local travel to company sites, customers or vendors is also required.
