Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach. Kinross began operating the mine in 2003, and it has since become a continuous improvement leader in the Company’s portfolio. Round Mountain poured its 15 millionth ounce in 2018. Round Mountain and the nearby Bald Mountain mine make up Kinross’ Nevada operations.
The Round Mountain mine is an important contributor to the Nye County economy and, working with local stakeholders, has helped achieve significant improvements in healthcare and education in the area.
Under the direction of the Purchasing Superintendent, Buyers are the authorized agent of the company and have legal authority to act for the company in commercial matters. The incumbent will act on behalf of Kinross Nevada when negotiating with suppliers for the procurement, transport, taxation and payment for goods and services needed by company operations.
1. Perform market analysis to ensure competitive bidding is performed for proposals to ensure the company is obtaining pricing and costs that are representative of an open market.
2. Ensure and recognize that service contracts are in place when processing onsite service purchase orders.
3. Build and Manage Contracts for onsite service work.
4. Monitor the distribution of inquiries and bid packages to vendors. Organize bid meetings and ensure bidders receive complete specifications. Receive and evaluate sealed bids, prepare bid analysis sheets, and recommend favorable bidder
5. Create purchase orders that are a legal agreement and will commit the company to economic liability.
6. Ensure timely delivery of material requirements for Planning in line with the approved planning schedule.
7. Provide commercial information to Project Managers of any critical issues within assigned goods and services.
8. Responsible for utilizing a material management system that produces accurate and timely purchase orders.
9. Attend assigned departmental meetings as required.
10. Submit competitive requests for quotes to suppliers and input into JDE system for evaluation and award.
11. Process requests for shipping documents for all materials leaving mine site. Processing returns and credit requests.
12. Process and monitor material costs of stock and non-stock purchase requisitions in accordance with Kinross Supply Chain Policy.
13. Negotiate transportation and FOB terms that are appropriate for the goods to ensure minimal risk.
14. Expand bidders list by sourcing new suppliers. Monitor the distribution of inquiries and bid packages to vendors. Organize bid meetings and ensure bidders receive complete specifications. Receive and evaluate sealed bids, prepare bid analysis sheets, and recommend favorable bidders.
15. Participate in special procurement projects initiated by operating company.
16. Attend regular maintenance planning meetings to support and commit to the agreed schedule.
17. Rotate with other buyers on scheduled “On-Call” duty on the weekends.
18. Perform contract management and capital expenditures as directed/assigned by the Materials Manager.
19. Follow and ensure Supply Chain policies are followed.
20. Expedite and track orders that are past due and update MRP system with current delivery dates.
21. Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
22. Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management including working as team to accomplish department goals and objectives.
23. Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.

25. Punctuality and regular attendance required.
26. Helps develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.

4. Must have a good understanding of mining equipment, machinery and processes.

6. 3 years previous buying experience preferred.
7. Previous accounting experienced preferred.
8. Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
9. General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations.
10. Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
11. Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
12. Ability to work independently and as a member of the management team.
13. Demonstrate strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills.
14. Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
15. Requires valid driver’s license.
