The

Automation Specialist

is responsible for repairs and maintenance of complex instruments and electrical control systems including PLC's, VFD’s and controllers. This role provides leadership and mentors other field personnel throughout the asset. They also manage projects, develop cost estimates, and oversee contract personnel as required. The Automation Specialist will be reporting to our Odessa, TX Office.

Responsibilities May Include

Applies a high-level understanding of pump station operations to identify enhancement opportunities
Designs complex logic and configuration changes and upgrades for programs logic design of programmable logic controllers (PLCs)
Performs calibration, troubleshooting and maintenance of sophisticated control systems and instrumentation and has the capacity to make programming changes and additions
Applies programming skills to optimize and enhance existing processes
Mentors and trains personnel with troubleshooting and making repairs in area/asset
Serves as a subject matter expert and may be utilized in audits and investigations
Serves as key contact person for asset or region for review of both company & industrial standards to review of modifications and revisions and interpretation of any need for changes in procedures and/or tasks as applicable to our business
Evaluates new technology and applications to be used to enhance our business
Assists centralized automation department with the design of new systems and performs installation of new field/plant automation equipment
Performs other related duties such as I&E work as needed in the asset


Required Qualifications

Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Maintain a valid driver's license
5 or more years of oil & gas experience
4 or more years of related experience in the I&E Classification
Willing and able to travel up to 40% of the time using a company vehicle in support of assigned work locations with overnight stays as necessary
Intermediate or greater level of proficiency with troubleshooting, ladder logic, and programming
Willingness and ability to perform and comply with following, with or without reasonable accommodations:

+ Work overtime and be available for callout + Wear personal protective equipment, such as flame-retardant clothing, eye protection, ear protection, steel-toed boots, hard hat, etc. + Operate both indoors and outdoors in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, and humidity + Regularly stoop, squat, kneel and crouch for durations up to 30 minutes + Periodically pull/push doors open to move around the gas plant + Occasionally exert pulling force of 130 pounds + Frequently lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds + Climb A-frame ladders


Preferred Qualifications

3 years or more experience with programming Allen Bradley and Siemens PLCs
Working knowledge of plant/pump stations logic
Ability to provide accurate documentation and follow through on records
Ability to interpret & update P&ID's, electrical drawings, and diagrams
Excellent trouble-shooting skills and ability to "walk others through" issues
Practices awareness concerning issues of health, safety and the environment
Working knowledge of variable frequency drive (VFD) control design including all aspects of programming, troubleshooting and tuning
Ability to perform work independently, be dependable, organized and work well with others while maintaining a customer focus

Midstream

The Phillips 66 Midstream business is a safe, reliable, and trusted provider for the movement, storage, gathering, and processing of liquid or gas energy via pipelines or terminals. We are an industry leader in logistics and operate or manage more than 70,000 miles of pipelines that transport crude oil from oil fields to refineries and finished products from refineries to storage terminals. We operate 39 terminals that supply finished products to consumer gas stations, as well as crude oil and NGL storage terminals and NGL fractionation facilities. Our capabilities include extensive natural gas gathering and processing operations, enhancing our wellhead-to-market strategy. We also provide the connectivity between the various Phillips 66 business units.
