Automation Engineers work as a member of a multidiscipline team responsible for the identification, design, implementation and maintenance of Process Control Applications, Distributed Control System (DCS) and, and much more. You will work collaboratively with unit panel operators, process engineers, maintenance, reliability, other automation engineers and vendors.
Minimum Requirements:
•7-10 years of work experience in an industrial setting (with min 3 yrs Automation experience)
•Honeywell DCS and Schneider PLC experience is preferred.
•A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Instrumentation, Process Control, Chemical)
•Been registered, or are eligible to register, as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
•Able to identify complex problems and review related information to develop, evaluate and implement solutions
•A comprehensive knowledge of industry codes, company standards and safety policies
Responsibilities:
•Implement configuration changes, problem solve, and maintain current process control systems
•Analyze and develop continuous improvement techniques to optimize reliability and performance
•Apply professional knowledge in initiating and/or conducting complex assignments requiring modification of established guidelines and procedures
•Support development, management, and sustainment of the process control system Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
•Apply Suncor and industry standards (ISA, IEC, CSA)
•Participate in Incident Management (IM), Corrective Actions (CA), Process Hazard Analysis (PHAs), job safety analysis, and Management of Change (MOCs)
•Ability to work with and influence stakeholders on technical decisions
Ensures Process Safety, Value Engineering and Safety Design principles in development of design
•Build and/or support automation best practices, standards and guidelines
•Provide support to the alarm management and critical system defeat procedure
•Support the BMS proof test, major turnaround projects, short pit stops, unit start-up after trip, business unit project commissioning and start-ups
•Utilizes a balance of intuitive and rational decision making to achieve the best solution
•Lead or work collaboratively in teams to develop plans to achieve long term objectives or implement corporate strategies.
•Adhere to and apply our safety policies, standards and values in the execution of work
Location and other Key Details:
•You will work out of a Syncrude location in Fort McMurray
•This position is safety sensitive
•This position is security sensitive which requires you to clear a criminal history check
•If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided; we offer competitive housing assistance to eligible individuals
•Our engineering roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
