Automation Engineer
The Automation Engineer will work in applications and data as part of an integrated IT/OT team at a fast paced, high-energy manufacturing environment headquartered in Austin TX. Must have at minimum 3 years real world experience with PLC development and deployment utilizing current state of the art software platforms. The overall Integrated Operations (iOps) system architecture ties order management, production, distribution, and transportation for all operations of Atlas Sand assets. Must be comfortable working in both a manufacturing environment outdoors, and office environments.
Responsibilities:
•Program in structured text, function block, ladder logic, sequential function charts, and instruction list code structures within PLC environments with structure, well documented PLC code.
•Knowledgeable in sound Engineering Principles
•Manage projects including internal and external technical resources to develop and troubleshoot PLC code for existing equipment as well as plant expansion projects
•Work within the Rockwell FactoryTalk suite to build-out and maintain existing RSLogix 5000 ControlLogix systems within the plant environment
•Understand industrial and IIoT data protocols, including OPC, MQTT, Modbus TCP, EthernetIP, etc.
•Understand and develop system archeries between ERP, MES, production, and analytic systems and applications
•Development, deployment, and expansion of an iOps SCADA system and it's subsystems
•Configure and manage SCADA solutions in the Ignition platform for real-time data monitoring, analytics, and reporting.
•Establish, document, and integrate automation standards and best practices.
•Ability to work in a manufacturing environment both indoors and outdoors, diagnosing full functionality of industrial computers interfacing to factory equipment, process controls, monitoring, and automation
•Good mentoring and training skills are required
•Must multitask efficiently in a high-energy office
•Must be highly skilled at documenting processes and procedures
•Willing to work at multiple geographic locations within Texas. Some travel may be required to Kermit, Monahan and other locations (15%)
•Must demonstrate and exercise good verbal and written communication skills in English
•Work with both on-premises and cloud environments for VM hosts and 3rd party applications
•Must be willing and able to work flexible hours and be "on-call" after hours
Additional Desirable Skills:
•Experience in Process Engineering, specifically with large Capex projects
•Ability to program in Python, C, and other structured text languages
•General aptitude for scripting and programmatic optimization of repeated administrative processes in Linux and Windows environments
•Understanding and ability to leverage and develop APIs between 3rd party applications
•Knowledge of Inductive Automation's Ignition HMI platform
•Basic understanding of SQL queries and database interfaces
•Familiarity with LAN/WAN networking including Routers, Switches, Firewall devices, VPN's, etc.
•Knowledge of industrial data historians such as OSI PI, Canary Labs, etc.
Qualifications:
•Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or IT, PLC Certification is a huge plus
•Will often set their own priorities based on general guidelines and direction.
•Must have a friendly and supportive attitude, strong work ethic, and team-player mindset.
•Must often compare alternative courses of action and make logical decisions.
•Must work well with ambiguity and tasks will not always be routine.
•Will have the authority and will be expected to make some decisions on their own, without direct guidance from supervisor
