The Associate General Counsel reports to the company’s CEO and provides senior management with legal advice on company strategies, contracts, compliance and corporate governance. This role manages the legal function of the company and directs and oversees the work of outside counsel.
- Advises executives, senior management, and the board of directors on issues of federal and state law.
- Acts as a trusted business partner to identify risks, provides strategic advice on risk mitigation and works collaboratively with senior management to continue growth and reputational excellence of the company.
- Sets internal governance policies and manages corporate governance compliance.
- Oversees compliance, risk management, contract negotiations, including the company’s FERC licensing and compliance and NERC compliance teams.
- Negotiates contracts for the sale of renewable generating facilities’ output, including power purchase agreements and renewable energy credit purchase and sale agreements.
- Negotiates and manages contracts, agreements and partnerships to support business development initiatives.
- Responsible for providing legal support for supply chain and project management teams at Great River Hydro, including drafting, reviewing and negotiation of supply chain agreements, maintenance and construction services, and EPC agreements.
- Support financing and accounting department compliance, including operational and financial reporting.
- Must possess a J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school.
- Admitted to practice and in good standing in the U.S.
- Minimum of eight years plus relevant transactional experience or at a major law firm, prior energy experience strongly preferred.
- Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment; prioritize tasks and maintain efficiency; and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Ability to work independently yet collaboratively while keeping key stakeholders informed.
- Proven ability to work on multiple projects at any given time in a fast-paced environment.
- Overall broad legal knowledge (contract law and negotiation, corporate governance).
- Strong business acumen and proven ability to work and lead across teams and departments.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to travel as needed throughout MA, NH, VT.

- The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position.
- Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
- This range may be modified in the future. $170,000-$250,000.
