The Jemez Springs Domestic Water Association is seeking to employ a highly motivated individual as an Assistant System Operator. This employee must demonstrate the initiative and ability to train and develop the skills, knowledge, and experience to independently operate and maintain the system infrastructure and ensure compliance with all governing health, safety and environmental requirements.
The Assistant System Operator is responsible to and takes direction from the System Manager/Senior Operator (SM/SO) for the installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of the water distribution system in full compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act.
The Board of Directors as the responsible entity for the management and administration of the Water Mutual, will expect this employee to be developed in a succession plan, in so much that the Assistant System Operator will be mentored and trained to assume the role of SM/SO should the need arise.
1. Maintenance and repair of system equipment, such as tanks, pumps, valves, meters, transmission and distribution lines.
2. As requested by the SM/SO provide emergency remedial action on a 24-hour seven-day-a-week basis.
3. Obtaining and maintaining Federal and State required Small Water System Operator Certifications commensurate with experience and system knowledge.
4. General supervision is under the direction of the SM/SO and in the absence of SM/SO then the President of the Board of Directors.
5. Personal vehicle use and costs pertaining to use will be compensated per personnel policy as part of the Assistant Operator’s salary.
Under the supervision of the SM/SO the Assistant Operator will:
1. Learn the system infrastructure and components to operate the system to include: line and leak repairs, meter installs and repairs. Perform general housekeeping of storage facilities, tanks, sites, valve and water collection vaults.
2. Understand the Health, Safety, and Environmental operating requirements to maintain compliance with all governing standards. Perform water sampling as identified and trained by the SM/SO.
3. Develop the knowledge and working experience of the system operation valve and line bypass systems.
4. Learn, understand, and apply the knowledge to operate the system Pressure Reducing Valve infrastructure.
5. Take the initiative to thoroughly understand the operation and maintenance of the system chlorination and arsenic treatment systems.
6. As part of succession planning and under the tutelage of the SM/SO, learn and administer the system GPS management database. This includes documenting all system infrastructure and ensuring that the components are recorded and easily identified within the GPS maps system.
7. Develop the experience and knowledge of the System Water Tank storage management. Ensure that the tanks have functional level reading sensors and understand their operation and action level trigger points.
8. In support of the SM/SO must be able to prepare and manage a priority list of work tasks and assignments that contribute and demonstrate improvements to the systems operability.
1. All employees are representatives of the Jemez Springs Domestic Water Association and while on duty shall conduct themselves in a manner which maintains the high standards of the Association.
3. Must be a qualified Water Operator level 1 or higher or be able to obtain the first certification within 18 months of employment. Also must continue to obtain next level certifications as soon as experience and requirements allow.
4. Reasonable computer and/or writing skills to manage and administer GPS database and develop maintenance plans.
7. Must be customer oriented and demonstrate the skills and professionalism necessary to follow through with customer concerns and deliverables in a timely manner.
8. Demonstrate the ability to multitask and manage competing priorities.
9. Must be able to operate a vehicle in the performance of their duties.
10. Must be able to perform stringent physical activity.

Generally this position is an hourly position, with some benefits applied. This is negotiable dependent on work schedule hours agreed upon.
Use of personal vehicle will be discussed, and terms will be mutually agreed upon.
Expected hours: No more than 30 per week
