About This Job

As an Area Lead Inspector, you will play a key role in operations by performing appropriate inspections to ensure assets can be operated in an efficient and safe manner. The Area Lead Inspector is a recognized SME (subject matter expert) both within and outside the organization and is considered a Lead Inspector with a thorough understanding and ability to apply all applicable jurisdictional and company procedures and specifications. You will facilitate continuous improvement of refinery inspection programs, processes, and operations to promote asset integrity and reliability. Your goal will be to lead work of other Inspectors and apply specialized inspection knowledge and skills in more than one area of expertise, e.g. tank, piping, pressure vessel, various NDE (non-destructive evaluation) methods, and welding inspection.

Your Responsibilities:

- Lead projects with broad scope and long-term focus in more than one discipline

- Act as the back-up for the Asset Integrity Team Lead

- Make decisions independently with mid-to long term impacts in multiple areas. Solve complex and ambiguous problems within all inspection areas with long-term focus on impact to other work areas. Keep Group Lead Asset Integrity informed

- Coordinate inspection of refinery equipment to ensure integrity and reliability. Evaluates, predicts, and schedules end of life replacement of refinery equipment

- Calculate rates of corrosion and remaining life for refinery pressure equipment and piping as defined by API (American Petroleum Institute) codes

- Strong knowledge of API 571 (Damage Mechanisms code), API 581 (risk based inspection), and API 579 (Fitness for Service evaluation techniques) and is able to apply these processes to refinery, Canaport Mispec, and Canaport East Saint John operating environments. This knowledge ensures all related duties are performed to industry standards

- Lead the development of equipment shutdown priorities in multiple operating environments

- Identify asset integrity related risk at the refinery, Canaport Mispect, and Canaport East Saint John

- Major contributor in providing analysis and recommendations for capital and expense budgets

- Prepare inspection reports. Conducts peer reviews before reports are distributed

- Audit vendors and fabricators to ensure compliance with company and industry standards and specifications with jurisdictional regulations for projects, including capital projects

- Supervise work of contract Technicians, co-op students, and more junior inspectors

- Is a SME for various specialized and complex projects that may require global travel and interaction with third party experts

- Lead the execution of compliance programs for the Asset Integrity Group


Your Skills:

- Excellent oral and written communication skills

- Able to mentor and provide constructive criticism to other inspectors

- Leads cross-functional team meetings with engineering, operations, and other teams effectively

- Very strong at working collaboratively with others both in own team and cross-functionally. Is a trusted resource for inspection related activities on more complex projects

- Trains, coaches, mentors other inspectors and is a champion for safety leadership

- Strong analytic skills with ability to calculate accurate corrosion rates and remaining life calculations of refinery pressure equipment and piping as defined by API

- Ability to lead long term projects from an asset integrity perspective

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve complex problems and consider larger impact of work

- Can manage multiple priorities concurrently and is deadline driven

- Possesses strong conceptual and decision-making skills. Has excellent presentation skills, leadership and management skills, ability to see integrations beyond their area of expertise, human resource skills, consulting skills. Understands financial impacts on the overall business


Your Experience:

- Diploma in an engineering technology, university degree in engineering, or Red Seal trade

- Certifications required include(minimum one): API (American Petroleum Institute) 510, API 653, or API 570

- Experience with or certification through CWB (Canadian Welding Bureau), Thermography, CGSB (Canadian General Standards Board), and/or NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers)

- 10+ years of experience that aligns with a Lead Inspector role with specific expertise in Damage Mechanisms (API 571) and processes in the petroleum industry
