Job Summary:
NextGen Industries Companies is seeking an Industrial Automation Engineer with experience in PLC and VFD automation programming and industrial communication networks. We work in a fast-paced environment, so the ideal Application Engineer will be responsible for development of automation programs, testing, and operation manuals. Works with the product management team as well as production team to develop automation wiring diagrams, I/O lists, automation programs. Supports full function testing of pumping stations and other special design controls. Contributes to innovation with designed programs.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Development
•Design, program and implement automation programs for PLC, VFD and other related equipment per specifications. Utilizing IEC 61131-3 industrial programming languages for machine control applications.
•Provide wiring diagrams for each project.
•Provide I/O lists for each project.
•Maintain highly accurate notes for each program. (internal and external to PLC programs)
•Retain and catalog all PLC and VFD programs for future reference.
•Develop I/O/M manuals per program specifics.
•Develop and maintain programming and process standards.
•Develop and implement project specific Factory Acceptance Test programs.
•Develop and implement project specific Customer Acceptance Test programs.
•Set up and tear-down of testing for products.
•Troubleshoot and correct issues during the testing phase of Automation, Instrumentation, and Measurement Systems.
•Document and retain all test results for future reference.
•Review BOM’s for custom controls and product component selection.
•Manage and create electrical drawings for electrical control boxes and pumping stations.
•Support project management team and service manager with troubleshooting. Possibly on site or by phone.
•Manages projects to meet deadlines and maintain budgets.
•Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications.
•Proactively seeks opportunities to engage with and support the team – team player.
•Other duties as assigned.
•Travel Required, up to 50%.
Qualifications:
•Excellent foundation in computer science.
•Adhere to automation solutions standardized conventions and guidelines.
•Willingness to write disciplined, organized and well documented code.
•Willingness to create disciplined, organized and well documented wiring diagrams.
•3+ years experience with PLC’s, HMI’s, motion controls and industrial sensors.
· Education level: High School diploma or GED required, Training in automation programming required, Associates or Bachelors degree in engineering or a related field a plus.
•Attention to Detail: Ability to work with precision and identify and solve problems or correct errors.
•Time Management: Ability to manage time and prioritize/reprioritize effectively.
•Analytical Skills: Strong problem solving ability and strategic thinking.
•Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must. Ability to absorb and apply constructive criticism from peers and internal clients is required.
•Computer skills: Must be able to navigate a wide range of computer programs with ease, including Microsoft Office. Ability to quickly learn and retain knowledge of new computer programs.
•Past experience: Experience with industrial networks such as Modbus 485 serial and TCP/IP, CanOpen, BACnet and other forms of industrial communications preferred. Experience troubleshooting and commissioning automation systems preferred.
Physical Requirements:
•Stand and / or sit continuously and perform job functions for a full shift with meal break.
•Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
•Ability to work in various industrial environments, including confined spaces and heights.
•Ability to work on-call and overtime as needed.
•Ability to hear and respond to facility commands.
