Job Objective
The Geographical Information System (GIS) Analyst operates independently to design, plan, and execute solutions using GIS software to analyze and present spatial information and spatial
products for Minerals, Royalty and Surface Land requirements. Spatial products include online and printable maps, web services, reports, files, and other information for use with a variety of planning, engineering, and administrative functions. Provides GIS related information to the
minerals team; and performs other related and peripheral duties as necessary and required.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for GIS tasks within Hilcorp Royalty and Minerals and affiliates
- Clear and effective communication and presentation skills.
- Designs, plans, and executes solutions including robust analysis based on business requirements.
- Integrate spatial data with business intelligence tools to deliver actionable insights for leadership.
- Develops and maintains enterprise web mapping applications, mobile solutions, and geo-processing tools to support GIS.
- Research and recommend new technologies and techniques for application development.
- Supports HRM and Surface Land Teams by maintaining and updating spatial datasets using
- GIS software and various other tools and interfaces.
- Collaborate with geologists, engineers, landmen, and operators to understand business needs and deliver effective GIS solutions.
- Design and maintain links and data views between various spatial and non-spatial databases.
- Perform data conversion and integration from various sources (e.g., shapefiles, CAD, spreadsheets) into enterprise geodatabases.
- Conducts mapping research, in the office and occasionally in the field, to identify and resolve conflicting information and ensure data accuracy.
- Work closely with 3rd party companies to ensure current and accurate land and lease data.
- Create clear, focused maps and figures as communication tools using GIS and related software.
- Implements and maintains organized file structure to store and catalogue data.
- Provides updated maps and brochures to support public outreach, marketing, and education programs.
- Provides excellent service, information, and resources, while establishing and maintaining a positive working relationship with state/government agencies, staff, and the public.
- Houston Office based with no remote working options.

- Other duties as assigned by management.
- Three (3) years experience using GIS software preferred
- A&D experience investment banking or private equity experience preferred.
- Ability to apply python and SQL for geoprocessing and automating workflows,
- geoprocessing tools, ArcSDE database management, ArcGIS enterprise portal management, and web application development preferred.
- Experience with ESRI geodatabases, web mapping services, KMZ/KML files, pipeline/centerline editing, annotation, AutoCAD to ArcGIS conversion, geo-referencing and spatial analysis preferred.
- Understanding of map projections, coordinate systems, and datums.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other departments, officials, and the public.
- Outstanding communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in the use and application of the following software:
- Required: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Teams and Outlook), ESRI
- Preferred: AI tools such as MS-CoPilot to streamline workflows
- Bachelor’s degree in geoscience, environmental science, computer science, engineering, geography, or related degree from an accredited university or college. Four (4) additional years of oil & gas or related industry experience using ESRI ArcGIS software may substitute for college degree.
- Certification in GIS Technologies preferred but not required. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, preferred but not required
