REPORTS TO: Plant Manager
JOBS SUPERVISED: Loader operators, slasher operators, peeler staff, labourers, maintenance personnel, and treating technicians
JOB OPPORTUNITY:
Bell Lumber & Pole MB ulc, formerly Roblin Forest Products, is hiring a Yard Supervisor to join our team in Roblin, MB . JOB PURPOSE:
The Yard Supervisor ensures the efficient daily operation of the production yard, focusing on logistics, production, staffing, and safety compliance. This role optimizes productivity and resource use, maintains quality standards, and coordinates with the Logistics team for timely deliveries. Responsibilities include supervising yard staff and operations, overseeing equipment maintenance and repairs, and ensuring product quality meets Bell requirements. Additionally, the Yard Supervisor is accountable for adhering to WH&S regulations and chairing regular staff meetings to ensure safety compliance.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Supervision:
•Instruct yard staff daily on wood requirements;
•Schedule and plan production in consultation with office personnel;
•Participate assist in hiring, disciplining and training yard staff;
•Supervise staff and ensure they are following policies and procedures;
•Staff scheduling and timecard authorization;
•Maintain yard supply and part inventories
•Operate loader equipment as needed;
•Temporarily perform all positions as necessary.
Production:
•Ensure rough wood quality and volumes are acceptable;
•Ensure maintenance and repairs of yard and production equipment
Safety and Environmental Monitoring:
•Ensuring PPE is up to date and available;
•Coordinate monthly safety meetings;
•Take minutes from staff meetings and WH&S Meetings;
•Maintain a safe and clean work area;
•Work closely with environmental monitoring consultant.
Problem Solving and Decision Making:
•Work with treating technician and production staff to ensure production and quality issues are addressed
•Reviewing operating efficiencies and provide recommendations to the general manager
•Day-to-day staffing decisions
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent, or relevant combination of education and experience
Experience: 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing facility; prior leadership experience preferred.
SKILLS BASED REQUIREMENTS:
•Experience managing and maintaining a production yard
•Ability to perform most or all tasks in the yard if needed
•Work Health and Safety for Supervisors and Managers Course or willingness to complete
•CPR and First Aid Course
•Class 5 Driver's license
•Experience and broad understanding of safety systems and enforcement of safety rules and policies.
•Ability to motivate people, assess and develop employee skills.
•Understanding of manufacturing operations, maintenance, and engineering principles and applications.
•Excellent planning and organizational skills, balancing production and maintenance needs.
•Strong interpersonal communication and listening skills, with superior overall communication abilities.
•Ability to be adaptable and flexible in various situations.
•Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
•Ability to work with and lead teams in decision-making processes.
•Highly motivated, results-oriented, and driven.
•Ability to work effectively both supervised and unsupervised.
•Knowledge and understanding all SDS sheets for required chemical compounds.
•Ability to properly use and maintain all PPE.
•Strong troubleshooting skills.
•Experience in budgeting and expense management with basic accounting knowledge is a plus.
•Proficient in implementing best practices and using continuous improvement is a plus.
SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT UTILIZED:
•Complete understanding of wood preservation system
•Wheeled loader, track loader, log loader, forklift, post peelers, lumber incisor, slasher, treatment facility,
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
•Physical endurance: Ability to work in a high-paced production environment requiring physical stamina.
•Ability to use a computer
•May occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds or more.
•Must be able to withstand extreme weather conditions; majority of the time will be working outside. Outside environment can be dusty & noisy. Equipment & treated lumber may emit fumes.
