To fit, assemble and weld various types of material (steel/ aluminum) to structural shapes into all types of assemblies according to blueprints, sketches and/or special instructions. Including welding subject to hydrostatic pressure test, standard x-ray testing procedures.
The employee carrying out the tasks associated with this discipline shall possess the following accreditations:
· Welder Fitter Certificate – Post Secondary Institution
· CWB Welding Tickets – FCAW (Vertical Position), GMAW – AL (Vertical Position)
- Assembles, positions, fits and welds, or bolts detail material to structure shapes, etc., to form into structural assemblies.
- Handles material to and away from work benches manually or by hoists.
- Receives instructions, blueprints, sketches and identified material
- Selects the proper welding and burning equipment, adjusts and regulates to obtain desired results.
- Uses proper size and kind of electrode, and best welding techniques with view to quality and quantity of weld deposited and minimum of material misalignment.
- Checks we lding for flaws and makes necessary repairs.
- Applies paint to contact surfaces where and when required.
- Tightens bolts to recommend torque using proper torque wrenches when required.
- Lines off own material, from blueprints or sketches, with templates or freehand.
- Fits sub-assemblies and auxiliary assemblies, working from prints, and pre-located holes.
- Checks safety mechanisms for alignment and action.
- Dismantles assemblies to repair or replace parts.
- Checks work against print to ensure accuracy.
