Water Quality Coordinator

The Water Quality Coordinator

, performs a variety of tasks related to the development and implementation of water quality programs. This includes ensuring proper monitoring of all District domestic water system facilities that deliver and/or distribute water to municipal and industrial users; preparing and submitting regulatory compliance reports; and coordinating water quality tests and reviewing results for accuracy in order to maintain safe, potable water in District M&I systems.

The

ideal candidate

has a strong foundation in chemistry, microbiology, and environmental science, along with a thorough understanding of domestic water treatment principles. They are familiar with local, state, and federal regulations related to water quality. They possess knowledge of mechanical systems relevant to domestic water flows, including treatment processes, water sampling, and laboratory testing for parameters such as chlorine residual, pH, taste and odor, turbidity, and MPN coliform bacteriological tests. The top candidate is detail-oriented, able to schedule and coordinate work, maintain accurate records, perform calculations, and work independently. Strong written and spoken communication skills are essential, along with a dedication to working well with team members and the public.

Qualifications

Any combination of training, education, and experience which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties of the position is qualifying. A typical qualifying entrance background is:

Education:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, environmental science, water resources, or a closely related field is required.

Additional directly related experience in water quality, compliance, or laboratory functions may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Substitution experience must reflect direct involvement in water quality or compliance responsibilities beyond general treatment or operations work. Experience:

Three (3) years of experience in water quality monitoring, regulatory compliance reporting, laboratory coordination, and water sampling and analysis in a public water system.

Licenses & Certifications

- Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver License with a satisfactory driving record to maintain insurability.

- Possession of the following certifications issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board:

- A valid Grade T3 Water Treatment Operator Certificate AND a Grade D2 Water Distribution Operator Certificate; OR

- A valid Grade D3 Water Distribution Operator Certificate AND a Grade T2 Water Treatment Operator Certificate

- Possession of both a Grade T3 and D3, or higher level, are highly desirable.

- Possession of a California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Laboratory Analyst (Grade 1 or higher) is preferred.

Benefits Cost of Living Adjustments (COLAs)

- A 5% increase will take effect with the first payroll of 2026.

Retirement

- Solano Irrigation District participates in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS).

- Classic CalPERS Members - benefits include equivalency of 2%@60 formula with the following provisions: final compensation is the monthly average of highest 36 consecutive months; and credit for unused sick leave. Employees pay 7% Employee Contribution.

- New CalPERS Members - benefits include equivalency of 2%@62 formula with the following provisions: three-year final compensation period used to calculate the average final compensation; and credit for unused sick leave. Employee pays 6.75% Employee Contribution.

Retiree Health Insurance

- Employees are eligible for retiree health insurance benefits following 10 years of full-time service.

Deferred Compensation

- 457 plan available, with Employer match up to $100 per pay period.

Health Insurance

- Plans include Anthem Blue Cross HMO and PPO plans and a Kaiser Permanente plan. The District pays a portion of the premium for employee and dependent coverage.

Dental Insurance

- Dental provider is Delta Dental. District pays full premium for both employee and dependents.

Vision Insurance

- Vision provider is VSP. District pays full premium for both employee and dependents.

Life Insurance

- Benefit is equal to 2x annual base salary rounded to the next higher $1,000, up to a maximum of $300,000. Premium is paid by the District.

Educational Assistance

- District reimburses up to $1,500 per fiscal year for eligible expenses.

Flexible Spending Account - Tax deferred payments for dependent care, health care, and certain benefit premiums.

Modified Work Schedule

- Eligible employees may have the option to adopt the 9/80 alternative work schedule upon mutual agreement between the employee and their supervisor.

Vacation and Sick Leave

- Vacation is accrued bi-weekly at 80 hours per year during the first year. Employees accrue 12 days of sick leave per year, calculated bi-weekly.

Holidays

- 11 scheduled holidays and 1 floating holiday per calendar year.
