The Senior Vice President of Benefits & Compliance is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing the design, governance, and risk management of all employee benefits programs and regulatory compliance across the organization. This executive-level role ensures that all workforce policies, benefits offerings, and labor-related practices are fully compliant with federal, state, and international employment laws, while also aligning with the company’s business goals and people strategy.
The SVP will lead enterprise-wide benefits strategy, serve as the internal authority on employment law compliance, and work cross-functionally with legal, finance, HR tech, and executive teams. This role is ideal for a compliance-minded executive who can balance fiduciary responsibility with employee experience, scalability, and operational excellence.
- Oversee compliance with all applicable labor and benefits regulations (ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, IRS, DOL, state-specific statutes, and international equivalents if applicable)
- Lead organizational response to audits, legal updates, and regulatory inquiries
- Own policy development and enforcement for global and multi-jurisdictional employment practices
- Develop and execute long-term total rewards strategies to attract, retain, and support a diverse, distributed workforce
- Lead the evaluation, selection, and performance management of all benefits vendors, carriers, and platforms
- Drive continuous improvement in benefit plan design, funding strategy, and cost containment
- Establish internal controls and audit frameworks to mitigate risk related to benefits, leave management, and labor compliance
- Ensure all benefits documentation, reporting, and filings (e.g., 5500s, ACA forms, SPDs) are timely and accurate
- Lead leave of absence, disability, and accommodation programs with legal and compliance integrity
- Act as a strategic advisor to C-suite leadership on employment law, benefits competitiveness, and compliance risk
- Lead, mentor, and grow compliance and benefits teams across HR, legal, and finance
- Represent the company in board meetings, compliance briefings, and investor communications related to workforce governance
- Drive the integration of benefits and compliance systems with enterprise HRIS, payroll, and legal tech platforms
- Oversee open enrollment strategy, vendor negotiations, and multi-channel employee communications
- Serve as the escalation point for sensitive benefits-related issues, internal inquiries, and external legal concerns- 12+ years of progressive experience in employee benefits, labor compliance, or total rewards
- Deep, working knowledge of U.S. federal and state employment law; global compliance experience a strong plus
- Proven executive experience leading benefit strategies for a large or multi-state workforce
- Experience with enterprise HRIS systems (Workday, Oracle, SAP, etc.) and legal compliance platforms
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
- CEBS, JD, SPHR, or related credentials highly preferred
