The Vice President / Controller will lead the organization’s accounting and financial reporting functions, ensuring full compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory standards set by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
This role requires a high-performing and hands-on professional who will play a critical role in building financial systems and establishing financial policies and procedures that support scalability and compliance of a multi-entity utility holding company and its subsidiaries. The successful candidate will oversee external audit and tax compliance processes and be responsible for all required regulatory reporting. In addition, they will play a key role in supporting formula rate filings and regulatory litigation.
As a strategic partner in the company’s financial growth, the Vice President / Controller will contribute to transmission development initiatives, evaluate strategic transactions, and support capital investment and cost optimization efforts.
This is a hybrid work position, with at least half the time in the corporate office. The position reports to the CFO and will work closely with the CEO and other members of the team.
- Lead the accounting and financial reporting activities and coordinate the review with senior management
- Utilize strong industry and financial expertise to optimize accounting, tax and regulatory opportunities
- Manage federal and state tax compliance and planning
- Manage financing requirements and reporting
- Develop and enhance processes and systems to provide streamlined reporting, account analysis, and cost allocation
- Build strong relationships with internal team members and actively engage in, understand, and contribute to ISO/RTO greenfield development and strategic transaction opportunities
- Perform financial due diligence for strategic transaction opportunities
- Mentor and develop the financial organization team members
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
- Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Finance or related degree required
- Master’s degree or MBA is preferred
- Minimum of 15 years of accounting experience including a minimum of 5 years in the electric utility industry
- Experience in GAAP and regulatory accounting, reporting and analysis
- Knowledgeable in cost allocation and variance analysis
- Experience in coordinating year-end audit and tax compliance activities
- Experience implementing accounting and financial systems is preferred
- Ability to prepare financial analyses and forecasts utilizing Excel
- Knowledge of GAAP and FERC regulatory accounting standards
- Knowledge of FERC regulatory compliance and reporting requirements
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT)
- Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to analyze and resolve technical and complex financial issues quickly
- Strong time management and organizational skills to effectively prioritize multiple projects and perform under tight deadlines
