Job Description:
Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President of Growth & Innovation, the VP Projects will lead and oversee SSR’s global projects portfolio with an immediate focus on the group’s current project pipeline and priorities at Hod Madden in Türkiye, operations at Marigold in Nevada, Seabee in Saskatchewan and the CCV Mine in Cripple Creek, Colorado.
Within the first 12 – 18 months in the role, the VP Projects will have:
•Taken accountability for the group’s current projects, including Hod Maden in Türkiye, and reviewed work completed to date, and developed a clear go-forward plan.
•Confirmed investment pathway for projects portfolio and ensured investment outcomes in line with project gating requirements from SSR Mining’s Investment Committee and Board.
•Ensured organizational framework and capability to advance and deliver existing priority projects. This framework will be fit-for-purpose to align with the SSR Mining culture and business imperatives.
•Fostered and embedded a proactive approach across the projects group – effectively working to deliver projects differently, driving productivity increases by challenging the status quo.
•Engaged the team to foster and champion SSR Mining’s values.
•Effectively built and maintained meaningful relationships with contractors/EPCM service providers to ensure they act in the SSR Mining way, both in terms of safety and performance best practices and cultural affinity.
•Purposefully navigated the projects organization to successfully build excellent working relationships across the global business with the ability to leverage help and support from other functions/groups.
The Day to Day:
The VP Projects will be responsible for all greenfield and brownfield projects work from feasibility study through to execution. They will ultimately be accountable for setting the final scope, project budgets, contracts and contractor selection, through to execution – construction and commissioning, and handover.
Included in this scope of work, the VP Projects will:
•Design the Projects organization with a view to building capability and commerciality, ensuring successful delivery across the project lifecycle.
•Lead and oversee all aspects of SSR’s projects pipeline and function, accountable for all greenfield and brownfield projects, complex sustaining capital work, and closure projects. Safety and health performance of all employees and contractors who work across the projects portfolio with a dedicated commitment to a fatality-free workplace.
•An active member of the SSR Mining leadership team; accountable for ensuring a timely and accurate flow of business information to the Executive Leadership Team, and Board of Directors. Provide investment advice and quarterly reporting information to the Executive Leadership.
•Role model and actively champion the Company's values and ethical standards. Visibly champion inclusive leadership behaviors and build a healthy and diverse leadership pipeline across all regions.
•Devise, lead, and execute the strategy for projects and engineering processes, ensuring effective capabilities across both disciplines.
•Ensure project milestones/targets and goals are aligned with SSR Mining’s strategic and business plans to increase value as well as priorities such as safety and health, cost control, schedule, environmental protection, and leadership development.
•Develop the project and organizational capability by embracing global standards, projects controls, leading-edge technology, and world-class management practices.
•Establish strong and trusted relationships with peers across the broader business and leadership team.
•Work collaboratively with senior regional and site leadership teams using effective communication to ensure alignment and operational integration.
•Develop and leverage a team of leaders to continuously expand the capability to improve project execution with strategy, talent planning, and retention.
•Implement control and risk management systems that anticipate problems and provide early warnings to management so major problems are avoided.
•Assist in the nurturing of the development strategy across SSR Mining. Working very closely and collaboratively with SSR Mining’s Technical Team, ensuring technical operations of the project group are managed effectively.
•Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with government, JV Partners, regulators, communities, and industries that enhance SSR's partnerships.
•Maintain key partner relationships, including suppliers, to ensure business continuity and preferred partner status, consultants, and EPCMs. Promote and drive the embodiment of SSR's values among these vendor groups.
•Create a delivery and innovation culture that is built on SSR's core values and enables best practices to emerge.
•Provide guidance to coordinate operating business plans with strategic projects plans.
•Continuously scan for strategic risk and take corrective action in a timely manner.
Is this you?
The successful candidate will be a proven and highly regarded Projects Executive capable of positively delivering on all facets of this expansive role, overseeing projects, sustaining capital and closure projects across the SSR Mining portfolio globally. The executive will have broad geographical experience and preferably will have worked in jurisdictions with similar logistical, environmental and/or socio-political challenges. Following qualifications, skills, and personal characteristics are desired:
•An undergraduate degree in engineering or another technical discipline (preferred).
•Demonstrable projects management experience, either successfully delivering major projects, or leading expansive project portfolios and related programs with a successful track record.
•Substantial and credible practical project leadership experience in metals, minerals, oil and gas, energy, chemicals, or other broader industrial settings.
•Asset and corporate leadership experience with a track record in joint ventures, project phases, and portfolio management.
•Significant leadership experience, having previously led projects teams with a demonstrated ability to manage and inspire, and develop talent building bench strength.
•Demonstrative track record in building and maintaining external stakeholder engagement, including formidable contractor/EPCM working relationships.
•Regarded for leading innovation and technological advancements within their remit of responsibility and for sponsoring best-in-class practices – often over-delivering on results.
•Experience in communicating effectively with executive and board members.
For applicants residing in CO, the salary range for this role is from $280,000-$320,000. Benefits: 401(k); medical/dental/vision insurance; employee share purchase plan, PTO, STI and LTI.
