We’re looking for a Transformer Test Technician I who’s eager to start or grow a career in transformer testing and support critical energy infrastructure projects across the U.S. This entry-level field role focuses on hands-on electrical testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of transformer systems from various OEMs. You’ll work directly with experienced technicians and engineers in real-world field settings while developing your technical skills and knowledge.
What You’ll Do:
- Perform basic transformer testing and troubleshooting (Megger, TTR, SFRA, Power Factor, Core Ground, etc.)
- Assist with testing alarms and system protection components
- Support passivation and accessory testing procedures
- Troubleshoot and repair control wiring in the field
- Participating in OEM-, utility-, and customer-directed testing procedures
- Document test results and prepare customer-ready reports with accuracy
- Safely operated construction and industrial equipment within capacity guidelines
- Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment in safe working conditions
- Follow strict safety and PPE usage protocols due to noise, electrical hazards, and elevated work areas
- 0–3 years of experience in transformer testing or transformer services
- Ability to read and follow technical procedures and wiring diagrams
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office, online tools, and basic computer systems
- Willingness to travel up to 80% across the continental U.S.
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Must pass a background check and drug/alcohol screening
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Available for extended and irregular hours, including weekends and holidays
- Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs., working outdoors in all weather, at heights (100+ ft), in confined spaces, and around high-voltage equipment- Requires good vision, hearing, and English proficiency for safe, effective communication in noisy environments
- Experience with transformer oil processing or degassing
- Understanding of electrical testing tools and shop equipment
- Transformer oil experience, including vacuum filling and degassing
- Knowledge of safe transformer disposal procedures
- Prior exposure to Power Factor, SFRA, and TTR testing
- Familiarity with test software or OEM documentation standards
- CDL, TWIC card, or OSHA certifications
