Job Summary
Under close supervision, performs entry-level work in the execution of the utility’s risk management, emergency preparedness, and insurance programs and projects.
ResponsibilitiesAssists in the collection of data and information and produces reports for the self-insured programs for group health/dental, employee benefits, property, liability, workers’ compensation, and other insurances. Assists in the development of risk management policies and procedures. Assists in processing, investigating, and validating claims and processes documentation for claims against entities that damage company property; maintains property damage assessment records. Assists in the compilation of information for the specifications of the annual insurance request for proposals. Assists in surveying loss control activities through physical inspection of facilities and operations. Assists in the updates of insurable values of all fixed assets. Responds to risk and/or safety calls with the Manager, Coordinator or Risk Standby personnel during normal working hours. Upon completion of an acceptable job review will respond to risk and/or safety calls independently.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of principles and practices of risk management, liability statutes, property coverage, group health, life and long-term disability coverage. Knowledge of administrative principles and practices, including goal setting, program budget development and program application. Knowledge of insurance claims procedures and administration. Skill in reviewing insurance policy provisions to detect coverage and exclusions. Skill in analyzing and classifying rate risks, exposures, and loss expectancies. Computer skills using Microsoft Office programs. Analytical ability to integrate and interpret data from various sources, and to plan, develop, and implement responsible strategies. Ability to direct investigations, determine the cause of losses and recommend corrective action. Ability to maintain good working relationships with internal and external customers. Strong oral and written communication skills in English; Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred. Ability to be on-call as needed to respond to risk/safety calls.
Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university with a major in Risk Management, Business or Public Administration or a related field.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Requires a valid Texas Driver License or receipt of a valid Texas Driver’s License within 90 days of relocation to Texas and a safe driving record, as measured by company policy.
