Assists in all work performed by a Communications Electrician while undergoing training in direct observation of a seasoned Communications Electrician; testing, adjusting, calibrating, repairing, commissioning and installing all types of communications equipment, completes all appropriate print/paperwork, wires as needed, runs and uses various computer programs. Performs other related work for which the employee is capable. The duties and responsibilities are generally performed in both indoor and outdoor environments. The position involves sitting, standing, walking, moderate to heavy lifting, moderate carrying, bending, reaching, keeling, twisting, balancing, climbing and operation flight equipment, tools and machinery.
Must pass a Communications assessment and communication field test.
This position is intended to provide the basic skills and education in order to successfully enter the Company's Telecommunications Apprentice Program which is currently under development for submission to the State of Nevada Apprentice Council. A Pre-Apprentice will be required to bid on a Telecommunications Apprentice vacancy no later than the completion of the two-year training program. A qualified Communications Pre-Apprentice who does not successfully bid and obtain a Communications Electrician Apprentice position shall be terminated. The Company shall consider that they have voluntarily resigned from their position.
The Pre-Apprentice is expected to learn the pre-requisite skills and gain knowledge in order to become a Communications Electrician. Will be required to successfully complete the Company provided training program, which includes formal training, job evaluations and on the job training. The evaluation will include work skills, behaviors, communication skills and teamwork. The candidate must pass training that include and are not limited to:
Employees in this position will complete a 12 month probationary period.
After two years, the employee will be expected to achieve and progress into a posted apprentice position and will serve a twelve month company probation in the newly acquired apprentice position. Failure to successfully progress into a Communication electrician position will be grounds for termination from the Company. If the lack of progression is due to the Company not having Communication Electrician vacancies, then the Company will allow a grace period providing the employee has been qualified to advance into a communication position by successfully completing the program within two years. If the Pre-Apprentice is an existing Company employee and the employee is unsuccessful in completing the program, the employee may request to go back to their prior position classification and department, providing a vacancy exists. If a vacancy is not available, the employee may be considered for other vacancies in the Company.
The Pre-Apprentice will perform work while assisting and working under the direct oversight of a Communications Electrician. The work will include the use of hand and portable power tools under the direction of a Communications Electrician.
The Pre-Apprentice, under direction of a Communication electrician, will assist with installing, commissioning, maintaining communication devices and associated equipment at switchyards, substations, power generation facilities and on transmission and distribution line circuits. Assist with settings, troubleshooting and repair of this equipment consistent with NVE practices and Safety regulations and will perform other miscellaneous work as assigned. At no time will a PreApprentice be allowed to work on energized equipment. The employee may also be required to perform the following duties:
Pre-Apprentice will learn and must demonstrate through assessments and on the job training the following tasks:
o knowledge and use of personal protective equipment
o use and maintenance of various hand tools and equipment
o identify and become familiar with testing procedures
o ability to comprehend complex sets of instructions and carry out tasks with minimal errors
o must be able to work as a team player
Must pass the Work Keys tests and attain the required scores in order to be considered for the position.
This position is regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) under Title 49 CFR Part 382 and Part 40. Any applicant/employee who is licensed and would operate a commercial vehicle for the Company will be subject to drug and alcohol testing under the Company's FMCSA drug and alcohol testing programs. Any employment, transfer, or promotion offer made for this position is contingent upon taking and passing a drug test prior to the commencement of the new role. If an applicant/employee fails the drug test, any offer of employment, transfer, or promotion will be revoked.
$29.86 to $38.12 per hour. Potential Safety Bonus 2%. The company reserves the right to determine the number of positions awarded for this requisition.
