Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact
Kinectrics is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical / Assembly Technician who will support the assembly, integration, testing, and maintenance of nuclear process skid systems, including piping, valves, pressure vessels, instrumentation supports, and structural components. As a technical specialist, lead and execute complex mechanical fabrication, assembly and testing projects using predominantly standard techniques and processes with a high degree of independence. This may include leading/supervising others on a project team and/or dealing directly with the customer. This candidate will exhibit strong leadership skills through work ethic (lead by example) and coaching to drive the right behaviors and work practices within the team. The assignment is within the Nuclear Equipment Solutions department and is predominantly in the field of mechanical assembly, testing, and inspections.
- Assemble piping systems, pressure components, structural frames, and supports using hand tools, power tools, and lifting equipment.
- Ensure systems are built to engineering drawings, specifications, and applicable nuclear quality standards (e.g., ASME NQA-1, Section III, Section VIII, etc.).
- Interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, and BOMs.
- Install valves, instruments, pumps, filters, heat exchangers and other process equipment into skid systems.
- Assist or perform basic track and orbital tube welding or fit up (if certified).
- Work with the welders to ensure correct fit-ups and tolerances before the final weld.
- Perform hydrostatic, pneumatic, vacuum leak and functional testing in accordance with approved procedures
- Assist in preparing TSSA package for pressure components/systems. Also it is expected that individual will work with TSSA inspector for an inspection and receive necessary signoffs on manufacturing documents (e.g. ITP).
- Document as-built configurations and deviations; work with Quality Assurance to ensure traceability and compliance.
- Maintain cleanliness and contamination control in accordance with nuclear-grade standards.
- Verify incoming materials for damage and compliance with specifications.
- Maintain manufacturing records (such as welding documentation, as built drawings etc..) and assist in preparing history files.
- Follow strict safety protocols for radiation safety, pressure systems, lifting, and confined spaces as required.
- Support ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable) practices and cleanroom/controlled area protocols when required.
- Familiarity with codes and standards (e.g., NQA-1, ASME VIII, B31.1/B31.3) and ISO 9001-2015 is considered an asset
- Maintain a working relation with Inspectors (such as TSSA inspectors), testing agencies (such as Helium leak testing), welders and weld shops, and machining and manufacturing shops.
- Support continuous improvement activities by providing feedback on processes and procedures to project managers, engineering staff, section managers, and directors
- Respond to customer inquiries, maintain good customer relations and solve problems.
- Ensure customer satisfaction by following good quality and safety practices in all aspects of the work performed.
- Perform routine processes and duties such as shipping, receiving, inventory control, housekeeping, etc.
- May require travel to and work at customer sites in Canada and on occasion internationally
- Exhibit leadership skills through mentoring and coaching of peers to reinforce a strong safety, quality, and human performance culture
- Perform other duties as required.
- Note: Work experience in nuclear process skids (particularly Hydrogen and Helium Isotopes), modular systems, Gloveboxes and vacuum/cryogenic equipment is considered an asset.
- Candidate should have 8 - 10 years’ hands-on experience with tools and knowledge of mechanical assembly, troubleshooting, and testing, and maintenance of equipment and systems
- Candidate should have 8 - 10 years of mechanical fabrication and assembly techniques including welding/piping of skid-based systems and equipment such as gloveboxes
- Candidate should have 8 - 10 years’ experience in the field of mechanical testing including but not limited to helium leak testing, and TSSA pressure testing (hydrostatic and pneumatic)
- Candidate should have 8-10 years related experience or equivalent advanced education in field of Mechanical Engineering Technology, Millwright, or similar.
- Candidate should have 8-10 years’ experience with the execution of specialized mechanical assembly and testing of specialized equipment including tritium based components/systems (getter beds, pressure vessels, equipment layout, piping layout, etc.)
- Ability to exercise considerable judgement and resourcefulness in resolving technical problems
- Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills
- Ability to work effectively to lead and build teams
- Experience using modern test equipment and instrumentation
- Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical principles
- Experience in troubleshooting mechanical devices, testing
- Experience in testing pressurized systems with different mediums
- Good computer skills for data acquisition and analysis
- Excellent knowledge of QA principles and safety practices
- High level of initiative and problem-solving skills
- Ability to be granted nuclear site security clearance
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Extensive knowledge in human performance principles
- Strong customer service orientation and interpersonal skills to work co-operatively with staff & clients.
- Must be able to travel to customer sites and participate in nuclear outage support work
