SUMMARY
The Survey Superintendent is responsible for overseeing survey crews and managing the completion of projects. They are responsible for supervising project models
This position reports to the Site Manager or another management personnel that the CEO designates. This position reports to the Ankeny, IA office but will maintain an In-Office or hybrid schedule of working out of their home office and the Ankeny, IA office. Working hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm or 9:00am to 6:00pm local time. This position is expected to travel up to 100% of the time.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Survey Superintendent oversees the daily field operations of a survey crew.
- Determine the most efficient plan of action for data acquisition for field surveys ranging from primary control through construction layout and as-built surveys, as needed.
- Understand and follow directions.
- Proficient with documentation of work performed and sketches.
- Communicate daily with Project Surveyor and technician regarding project schedule and work progress.
- Interact professionally with client representatives and landowners.
- Read and interpret construction drawings/specifications and understand all aspects of the project specifications and tolerances.
- Prepare daily reports, time sheets, and other required paperwork.
- Maintain vehicle and field equipment.
- Regular attendance, in accordance with the company's attendance policy and supervisory assignment, is an essential job duty requirement for this position.
- Perform other duties and special projects, as assigned by Management.- 4+ years of Solar or construction experience, Survey Leadership experience is preferred.
- Experience in Solar, commercial or utility scale projects.
- Experience with Trimble equipment is preferred.
- Strong communication skills (listening, writing and verbal)
- Proven work history, strong work ethic, and team-player attitude
- Ability to travel for extended periods.
- Ability to work in all-weather climates.
- Good attitude, eager, willing to learn, proactive.
- (Preferred) Experience in constructing PV and/or ESS projects.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Knowledge of building products, construction details and relevant rules, regulations, and quality standards
- Basic competency with email and basic computer functions
- Ability to prioritize work activity.
- Ability to work within a team and take direction from team leaders.
- Ability to work a variety of hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.
- Valid Driver’s License & Clean Driving Record
- Stationary Position: frequently remains stationary up to 90% of the time and sitting up to 8 hours in a day
- Move/Traverse: infrequently bend, stand, stoop and/or walk
- Carry Weight: infrequently carry weight and/or lift objects (light to heavy) weighing up to 10 pounds
- Hearing and Speech: frequently communicates with the ability to hear and talk on a regular basis with employees, coworkers, and all personnel matters; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
- Sight: frequent use of sight to detect images on computer, office documents, and office objects near and far
- Climb: occasionally ascends/descends on stairway to get to office upper and lower floors
- Travel: up to 100% as needed

- Noise level ranges from low to moderate (if in office setting)
- Noise level ranges from moderate to high (if on construction worksite)
- Able to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, stairways, etc.
- Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at elevated heights as well as in confined spaces (towers, vessels, excavations, etc.)
- Able to walk or move continuously while carrying 50 lbs. of tools and/or materials. It is recommended to get assistance to lift items over 50 lbs. Check with your project supervisor or project safety director.
- Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time
- Must be able to work extended hours on your feet on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel, etc.) Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with requirements of the job duties.
