The Superintendent - Geotechnical with a focus on dam management will spearhead various geotechnical and mine waste management projects, ensuring meticulous oversight from field investigations to construction and dam safety inspections, alongside in-depth involvement in related analyses like hydrotechnical and hydrogeological. This role is pivotal in directing and reviewing geotechnical analyses, particularly emphasizing soil mechanics, managing quality control, and mitigating risks throughout the design, construction and operating phases. The position will play a vital role in developing and realizing the mining business plan.

Location of Position: Blackwater Mine Site

Schedule

- Ideal schedule would be a Monday to Friday site based role.

- For the right candidate, we would consider a one week on/one week off rotation, with some occasional travel to our corporate head office based in Vancouver, B.C.

Employment Type: Permanent

Responsibilities

- Direct geotechnical and mine waste management projects, including field investigations, laboratory testing and interpretation; geotechnical and design analysis; and construction monitoring.

- Ensure compliance with all permit conditions, assist with dam safety inspections, coordinate ITRB reviews and reporting.

- Oversee the development and implementation of site monitoring and instrumentation plans for site infrastructure including identification of:

- Quantifiable Performance Objectives.

- Monitoring types, and location.

- Trigger Action Response Plans.

- Emergency Preparedness Response Plans.

- Scope and manage geotechnical engineering tasks.

- Engage in other scopes such as hydrotechnical, hydrogeological or geochemical analyses that may be related to waste management structure performance.

- Manage quality control and geotechnical risks during design, construction and operations.

- Participate in development and implementation of mining business plans.

- Participate in and promote a safety-first culture.

- Train, mentor, and supervise technical work of site staff.

- Promote BW Gold's vision, values and culture amongst employees.

Qualifications

- 10+ years of relevant (post-degree) experience working in a consulting engineering or mining industry environment.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Geological Engineering preferred.

- Registered or eligibility to be registered as a Professional Engineer or Professional Geologist in British Columbia.

- Expertise in soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering.

- Excellent technical writing, interpersonal communication, and emotional intelligence; ability to establish good relationships with clients and colleagues.

- Strong, client-focused project direction and business development skills.

- Ability to manage risk and have excellent engineering judgement.

- Ability to commit to working at site based on one of the two schedule options provided above.

- Ability to effectively delegate work and lead diverse, interdisciplinary project teams.
