The Greenstone Mine commenced production in May 2024 and will be one of Canada's largest open-pit gold mines, with annual production expected to average nearly 400,000 ounces of gold per year for an initial 14-year mine life with additional potential from a large underground deposit. Greenstone Gold Mines LP is owned by Equinox Gold Corp, a Vancouver-based mining company with seven other operating mines in the United States, Mexico and Brazil.
We are seeking a Geology Superintendent to join our team. Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, this role is responsible for supervising in-pit production activities, including mapping, data analysis, and reporting, while ensuring accuracy. The Geology Superintendent will also assist with designing and managing the in-pit RC grade control drilling program, ensuring precise and efficient geological control of mining operations. This support optimizes recovery, minimizes dilution, and aligns with the long-term strategic mine plan. The Superintendent will lead and mentor a team of geologists and geological technicians, fostering continuous improvement in geological practices and data management.
- Ensure all mine geology department activities comply with health and safety policies and regulations.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of geologists and geological technicians, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous learning.
- Manage team schedules, performance reviews, and professional development plans.
- Promote cross-functional collaboration within the geology team and with other departments.
- Supervise and report on in-pit production activities.
- Ensure accuracy of production dig line mark-ups and grade control procedures.
- Supervise sampling from various drilling programs and evaluate assay data quality by maintaining a robust QA/QC protocol.
- Maintain databases and analyze data for production and reconciliation purposes.
- Reconcile mine versus mill figures and mine versus reserve and resource figures.
- Support the geological modeling and resource estimation processes, working closely with corporate geology teams and external consultants.
- Supervise updates to the grade control database, block model, and ore block designs.
- Assist with designing and managing in-pit RC grade control drilling programs.
- Supervise in-pit geological mapping and data analysis for both grade control modeling and geotechnical evaluation.
- Identify and implement new geological technologies and software to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Monitor and evaluate geological and assay data quality; assess blast performance in relation to geological structures.- 10+ years of relevant work experience, ideally in an open pit gold mining environment. - 3+ years of experience in a supervisory or senior geology role, ideally within a large-scale mining operation.
- Experience in both open-pit and underground mining is considered an asset.
- Thorough understanding of geological instruments, sampling techniques, and data interpretation.
- Demonstrated proficiency with mining software; experience with Datamine, Deswik, and Leapfrog is considered an asset.
