Position Summary:

GMB Superintendents, under the direction of the Head of Storm Operations, play a crucial role in ensuring we deliver the highest quality of service, professionalism and safety for all storm restoration repairs provided to our contracted utilities and the communities we serve. They are charged with leading and supervising a crew of General Foreman, Foreman, Journeyman Linemen, Groundmen etc. ensuring all overhead and underground electrical powerline repairs are completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest standards of quality. The Superintendent will lead crews in emergency response situations, working closely with the Safety Representative to maintain a strong focus on safety throughout operations. Additionally, the role will provide assistance to the Head as requested and assigned.

The role involves overseeing the logistics of mobilizing resources, managing storm response processes, and ensuring all related documentation is accurately tracked, submitted, and compliant with utility contract specifications and GMB’s internal policies. The Superintendent will also be the key liaison between GMB and external stakeholders, including utility companies, city departments, and other agencies, to ensure communication and operational alignment. Additionally, the position requires a hands-on approach to managing crew performance, safety compliance, and efficient resource utilization during storm restoration efforts, while also contributing to the overall success of the company’s mission of delivering exceptional service to the communities we serve.


Team Leadership, Supervision, & Performance Management

Lead and supervise the work of internal personnel, including general foremen, foremen, and journeyman linemen, ensuring all tasks are completed safety, on time, and with the quality standards established by the company and utility contracts.
Plan, schedule, delegate, oversee, and coordinate the repair of electrical systems.
Provide on-the-job mentoring and coaching to internal personnel, including general foremen, foremen, and journeyman linemen, ensuring continuous professional development and skill enhancement.
Assist in developing and implementing organizational goals, objectives, policies, and priorities.
Foster a collaborative work environment where teamwork, safety, and excellence are promoted.
Assign tasks to crew members based on skills, experience, and contract requirements, while ensuring that work is distributed fairly and effectively across the team.
Conduct regular performance reviews and assessments, identifying opportunities for improvement and providing constructive feedback for team members.
Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety protocols for all internal crew members.
Assist in identifying opportunities for internal career growth and providing training opportunities to help crew members reach their professional goals.
Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction by ensuring work is performed to the highest standards.

Roster Management, Call Outs & Logistics Support

Assist with storm callouts, ensuring internal crews are assigned quickly and efficiently in accordance with utility contract needs, and that crews are mobilized quickly and effectively.
Provide critical support during roster builds to ensure timely and accurate Utility submissions.
Coordinate with logistics team to assemble appropriate roll out packets for crews upon arrival.
Communicate with internal operations teams, including the Director of Transportation, Head of Storm Operations, Logistics Coordinator, general foremen, and foremen, to ensure proper equipment allocation.
Assign Crew Roles and Responsibilities: Ensure the right personnel are assigned specific tasks within the overall process that match their expertise and avoid duplication of responsibilities.
Maintain Clear Communication: Ensure timely updates are sent to both the utility company and field crews to keep everyone informed of mobilization status, progress, and priorities.


Crew Mobilization, On-Site Management & Supervision

Coordinate mobilization of multiple internal crews, equipment, and materials for both emergency powerline restoration and planned/awarded powerline maintenance projects.
Lead teams and storm restoration efforts, coordinating with utility companies and internal teams to ensure the efficient repair and restoration of electrical services.
Ensure crews are properly equipped and have all the information needed to carry out storm call response requirements (e.g., work assignments, tools, safety protocols).
Act as the primary point of contact for communication between utility field logistic crews and internal operations to ensure alignment with utility requirements and internal roll out procedures.
Supervise on-site operations for multiple internal crews, ensuring that all tasks are completed safely and efficiently. Monitor work progress, ensuring that any potential delays or issues are promptly addressed.


Safety Management and Compliance

Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, ensuring all team members are using proper personal protective equipment (PPE) And following safety procedures.
Ensure proper reporting of safety incidents, injuries, or near-miss events, and work closely with safety representatives and Human Resources for incident management and follow-up.
Investigate accidents or safety incidents. Document findings, implementing corrective actions and reporting to executive leadership.
Ensure compliance with all local, state and federal safety regulations, including OSHA and DOT requirements as well as industry specified safety standards.
Coordinate drug and alcohol testing in accordance with DOT regulations as recommended by the Safety.
Instill a safety-first mentality throughout the team. Leading by example and promoting a proactive approach to risk management.
Ensure Safety Reps conduct frequent safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, ensure safety compliance, and address any unsafe conditions promptly by working with your safety rep assigned to the crew(s).


Post Work Documentation & Crew Demobilization

Ensure that all tools, equipment, and company assets are returned and properly accounted for after the completion of storm restoration efforts.
Ensure post-work assessments are conducted to evaluate crew performance, discuss any challenges faced, and identify areas for improvement.
Provide feedback to Head of Storm Operations and leadership teams on the performance of internal crews during and after each project.
Oversee the preparation/submission of billing documentation in agreement with the utility contract terms.
Ensure the timely and accurate submission of crew reports, timecards, and other necessary documentation as required by utility contracts.


Technical Expertise and Problem-Solving

Oversee and perform advanced electrical line work such as pole setting, wire stringing, transformer installation, and splicing conductors.
Identify, analyze, and troubleshoot electrical faults, faults in power lines, and electrical system failures, while developing practical solutions to address these issues efficiently.
Oversee and operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, and other essential electrical line tools.
Stay updated on industry best practices, emerging technologies, and new safety regulations relevant to electrical power systems.
Provide technical guidance to team members and ensure the team's skill set aligns with industry standards.
Use creative problem-solving techniques to find innovative solutions to complex electrical issues, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal project delivery.


Qualifications:

Required:
Valid Journeyman Lineman license or certification.
5+ yrs as a General Foreman w/a minimum of 3+ yrs experience as Journeyman Lineman
Strong understanding of electrical theory, power line construction, and safety regulations.
Experience with live-line maintenance (hot-work) is required.
Proficient in working with high-voltage systems, interpreting schematics, and reading blueprints.
Strong knowledge of construction standards, electrical codes, and utility regulations.
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Familiarity with operating heavy equipment, such as bucket trucks and digger derricks
Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
Safety Certifications (First Aid, CPR, OSHA 10/30, etc.).


Working Conditions:

Approximately 70% outdoor work and 30% indoor work. Outdoor work includes tasks performed from an assigned vehicle and conducting outdoor visual inspections.
Possible exposure to inclement weather conditions during unplanned outages or public safety events.


Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, squatting, scooping, and bending.
Ability to lift 50+ pounds frequently.
Manual dexterity for tasks such as handling tools, reaching, and precision work with fingers.
Must have appropriate mobility, hearing, vision, and dexterity level for safety critical work.
Ability to travel between various sites and locations.
