Position Overview:
We are seeking a motivated Summer Co-op Student with a strong background in AI and machine learning to help develop a predictive and preventative maintenance system to mitigate unplanned equipment failures. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on a real-world project that directly impacts our operational efficiency. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and key stakeholders to gather requirements and design, implement, test, and deploy ML models that enhance our maintenance strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
•Requirement Gathering: Work closely with stakeholders (engineering, reliability and operations) to understand operational challenges and maintenance needs and translate them into technical requirements.
•Model Development: Develop, train, and test machine learning models to predict and prevent equipment failures.
•Data Integration: We will utilize data from our SCADA systems and Postgres databases and process it through the Azure data stack (including Azure ML/AI, Azure Databricks ML, Azure Functions, Azure Event Hub, and Azure Data Factory).
•Deployment & Monitoring: You will assist in deploying the models into our production environment and monitoring their performance to ensure they effectively reduce unplanned downtime.
•Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional teams, including engineering, reliability, operations and IT, to seamlessly integrate the predictive maintenance system into existing operations.
•Documentation & Reporting: Document project progress, model performance, and technical challenges; prepare reports and presentations for technical and non-technical audiences.
•Continuous Improvement: Stay current with AI/ML trends and industry best practices to enhance the system’s capabilities continuously.
Qualifications:
•Educational Background: Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, AI/ML or Data Science
•Programming Skills: Proficiency in Python with hands-on experience in ML libraries and data processing tools.
•ML & AI Libraries/Technologies:
•+ Machine Learning Frameworks: Experience with libraries such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Keras, and PyTorch.

Data Processing: Familiarity with
Pandas and
NumPy for data manipulation and analysis.

Cloud-Based AI/ML Platforms: Practical experience with
Azure ML/AI and
Azure Databricks ML.
•Database and Data Integration: Proficiency in Python and SQL and experience working with structured and unstructured data.
•Stakeholder Engagement: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders to gather, refine, and translate business requirements into technical solutions.
•Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
•Problem-solving: A proactive, analytical mindset with a strong focus on innovative solutions and continuous improvement.
Preferred Skills:
•Prior experience in predictive maintenance or industrial IoT projects.
•Knowledge of SCADA or time-series systems and their integration in industrial settings.
•Familiarity with additional ML libraries such as XGBoost, LightGBM, Prophet Or PyOD is a plus.
•Understanding of the gas supply chain, compressors, and pressure regulator systems.
•Experience in data engineering and building automated data pipelines.
