We are seeking a Substation Technician to join our team!
- Must work around energized high voltage substation and transmission equipment up to and including 500kV.
- Install, maintain, and repair transmission breakers and transformers.
- Use transmission LOTO system procedures, take working clearances and follow orders as instructed by the Utility System Operators using three-part communication skills.
- Perform general substation maintenance and repairs.
- Perform rigging and material handling using various equipment and methods
- Perform new construction and modification of existing substations.
- Install concrete foundations, below and above grade conduit, below and above grade ground grid
- Understand technical and construction drawings and methods
- Pull and terminate control wiring in control houses and substation equipment.
- Install and remove relays, relay panels, batteries, battery chargers, and control and communication cables for different types of substation equipment.
- Provide support for 24-hour operations, perform substation standby duties, perform transmission line post-fault inspections, answer callouts and provide assistance outside regular working hours.
- Travel to remote system facilities and work, with regular overnight stays.
- Continue occupational training which will include special training in order to become certified to operate cranes.
- Applicant should have a minimum of 6 experience years in substation construction or maintenance
- Previous experience in substation construction operations
- Familiarity with substation tools and equipment
- Strong troubleshooting and critical thinking skills
- Ability to handle physical workload
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Licenses & Certifications: Class “A” CDL, Certified Crane Operator or the ability to obtain within 2 years of hire
Physical Tasks & Working Conditions: The incumbent works in energized substations, switch yards and generating plants; frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards, the majority of work is performed outside with exposure to risk. Must regularly travel to remote system facilities and work with regular overnight stays.
