Primary Duties
The Subforeperson, Wastewater Treatment oversees a team of assigned Operators and provides operational guidance as it affects day to day activities. They will coordinate tasks and provide instruction and guidance for the maintenance and operations of wastewater plants and pumping stations to ensure the safe and efficient operation of facilities while adhering to applicable legislation, guidelines, policies and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
•Assign, plan, coordinate and provide operational oversight for an assigned team of Operators and maintenance journeypersons.
•Monitor and assess wastewater processes and troubleshoot operational issues.
•Ensure team members complete operational and maintenance activities consistent with applicable laws, regulations, rules, standards and company policies and procedures.
•Oversee on-site contractors and monitor activities to ensure they are consistent with requirements.
•Communicate with various stakeholders regarding wastewater system issues.
•Facilitate safety talks, job planning and tailboard conferences to ensure safe and efficient work activities.
•Provide coaching and guidance to team members.
•Review new and amended legislation and assist with the development and implementation of changes to internal processes and procedures to maintain compliance.
•Act as an ORO as required and consistent with regulatory requirements.
•Assist in the development and implementation of new work processes and procedures.
•Comply with all health and safety requirements, maintain a safe work environment, report hazards and promote a culture of safety in the workplace.
Education, Certification and Other Qualifications RequiredKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:
•Advanced knowledge of wastewater treatment systems and operations
•Advanced knowledge of wastewater collection systems
•Advanced knowledge of laboratory procedures and sampling procedures and techniques
•Intermediate knowledge of various Wastewater Regulations, Acts and Standards Work Protection Code
•Intermediate organization, scheduling and work planning skills
•Intermediate leadership and coaching skills
•Intermediate resource and time management skills
•Advanced troubleshooting skills
•Intermediate verbal and written communication skills
•Intermediate ability to read interpret PIDs and engineered drawings
•Intermediate knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements as it relates to individual, organizational and operational requirements
•Intermediate MS365, Dynamics365 and Watertrax skills
•Basic knowledge of contract and budget management
Qualifications:
•5 years’ experience operating Wastewater treatment facilities
•Minimum class 3 in wastewater treatment
•Class 4 in wastewater treatment desirable
•Post-secondary diploma in Environmental or Civil Engineering Technology or related discipline
•Class G drivers’ license
Special Working Conditions/Conditions of Employment•Criminal Police Information Check (CPIC).
•Maintain the required licenses, trades, certification and/or professional designation associated with the position.
•The successful candidate will be placed on a rotational ORO standby list.
•Valid Glass G drivers license.
