About the Job
The Staff Attorney supports the Chief Regulatory Counsel, Energy, in managing AGA’s regulatory advocacy and litigation efforts. Working with AGA subject matter experts and member companies, the Staff Attorney helps develop regulatory advocacy initiatives and positions on issues impacting the natural gas industry, with a focus on issues before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Department of Energy
What you will do:
•Represent AGA in stakeholder and agency meetings on regulatory issues
•Draft comments on federal regulatory proposals on topics, with a primary focus on FERC/natural gas pipeline, and Department of Energy (DOE)/energy efficiency; coordinate input from members to reach consensus
•Work with members to develop regulatory advocacy initiatives and positions on issues impacting AGA members before FERC, the DOE, and other federal agencies.
•Review, analyze and summarize regulatory and legislative proposals
•Research legal and policy issues as needed to support AGA’s advocacy efforts
•Draft analyses and summaries to keep members informed of regulatory developments
•Attend and provide concise summaries of Congressional hearings, FERC meetings and other briefings relevant to AGA members.
•Prepare reports, presentations and collateral materials for use in public policy outreach and communications
•Develop and maintain federal regulatory and content for AGA’s website
•Work collaboratively within the Office of General Counsel and others at AGA
•Perform other legal duties as assigned by the General Counsel or Chief Regulatory Counsel, Energy

•J.D. and admission to a state bar required
•2-5 years of experience in regulatory policy (private practice, energy industry, association, government or NGO), or related industry
How we operate:
This role is based in Washington, DC where AGA employees currently have the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule with 3 days in the office and 2 days remotely. The employee’s team determines one day each week, and the employee determines the others.
The Pay and Benefits:
For employees who live in the Washington, DC Metro area, the salary range for this position is $135,000 to $155,000 annually. Candidates are typically hired at a point in their salary range based on prior experience, education, and market demand for the role; employees are also compared internally to their peers.
