Overview
The Sr Principal Tax Analyst - International will assist the Head of Tax in managing international taxes including reviewing quarterly tax provisions, monitoring cash taxes and managing global outsourced engagements for transfer pricing and income tax compliance. The Sr Principal Tax Analyst - International will also need a general knowledge of foreign income tax concepts, theories, and principles to interact and provide planning, provision and compliance support to both the business locations and the outsourced providers. The Sr Principal Tax Analyst - International must be able to apply an understanding of the industry to improve effectiveness, provide guidance, and influence processes and policies for the tax discipline as well as identify and resolve technical, operational, and organizational problems that impact effectiveness.
This position is an individual contributor role. The role directly reports to the Head of Tax and routinely interacts with Regional Business Leads, Division Controllers, Project Managers, Accounting, FP&A, Audit, Legal, Compliance, Federal Tax Authorities, State Tax Authorities, and Information Technology.
Responsibilities
- Research and advise on various tax regimes applying in different countries.
- Provide appropriate tax planning and tax advice through the project life cycle (from bid to execution to exit), including working with project teams and Finance to ensure proper implementation, and follow through with compliance.
- Assist in review of contracts, including assistance with contract negotiations.
- Provide tax advice and assist with planning ideas on the various group companies and branches.
- Keep internal departments up to date with tax changes in relevant countries, and their impact on CB&I.
- Liaise with Tax, local and corporate Finance depts., as well as external advisers as necessary.
- Review/assistance with corporate income tax returns for various companies.
- Review/assistance with corporate income tax correspondence, tax audits, tax appeals.
- Review/assistance with transfer pricing documentation and compliance.
- Review/assistance with tax procedures and processes.
- Liaise with Tax, local and corporate Finance depts., external advisors and tax authorities as necessary.
- Help manage the international tax provision process, including quarterly accruals, and responding to requests from the external providers and auditor.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, or a related field, or equivalent work experience required.
- CPA Certification preferred but not required.
- Typically, 20+ years of corporate and international tax experience, preferably in a multinational organization.- Proven expertise in Managing relationships with outside consultants and Tax Authorities.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex tax transactions.
- Experience in working with multiple legal entities under different legal umbrellas.
- Previous experience in the energy, construction, or infrastructure sectors preferred.
- Proficient in MS Office, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
- Expertise in ERP platforms (e.g., JD Edwards, Oracle EBS) and consolidation and reporting solutions (e.g., Hyperion, Hubble) preferred.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with business and finance leaders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate tax and financial information to stakeholders, including management, investors, and tax authorities.
- The ability to interact with company personnel, build strong relationships at all levels and across all business units and organizations, and understand business imperatives.
- Strong ability to manage, mentor, and guide and motivate team members, delegate tasks effectively, and foster a collaborative work environment.
- Strong excel and data skills to extract and streamline data gathering and process improvements.
- Deep understanding of financial statements, accounting principles, and the ability to analyze financial data to identify trends and opportunities.
- Strong understanding of US GAAP federal and international tax concepts, law, regulations, and accounting standards.
- Demonstrates exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Must exhibit strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills with reliable judgment.
- Proficient in researching tax issues.
