We're looking for an energetic and talented individual to join our growing team as a Tax Analyst.
This is a key position that will assist in all tax-related matters including strategy and compliance, accounting, and reporting. This person should have a strong motor fuel and general tax background including analytical and critical thinking capability.
- Pay monthly, quarterly, and annual motor fuel, property, gross receipts, sales and use tax returns for multiple jurisdictions.
- Reconcile each return to ensure you are paying the correct number of gallons and dollars.
- Respond to notices and assist with audits from states.
- Keep up to date on current state policies on taxation and be aware of any upcoming changes in the way the state wants the return completed and paid.
- Amend prior returns to correct any past issues.
- Gather documents and apply for appropriate refunds.
- Analyzes return and communicates trends of inconsistencies to Tax Director.
- Assists Supervisor with special projects.
- Work with the leadership team on special projects.
- Assists Compliance Lead/Supervisor with special projects.
- Work with other departments within the company to resolve any tax reporting issues.
- Assist supervisor in writing policies and procedures related to compliance.
- Analyzes and updates tax software.
- Role requires attention to detail, accuracy and speed in execution of assigned tasks.
- Must be organized and able to prioritize workload while handling multiple assignments in order to meet deadlines.
- Must be a self-starter and able to complete tasks with minimal supervision, from initiation of tasks to follow through of resolution for any issues that arise.
- Must be customer-oriented and able to communicate well with both internal and external constituencies.
- Must be team-player and demonstrate willingness to perform tasks not directly associated with role, including backing-up coworkers, clerical tasks, and other duties as assigned.
- Must be excited to learn and grow with the company.
- One to three years of Indirect Tax
- One to three years experience in Motor Fuel Compliance.
- Fuel industry experience required.
- Experience with PDI Enterprise, Avalara, or other tax software strongly preferred.
- Strong computer skills required, familiarity with data import/export and formulas in Excel.
- Strongly prefer a four-year degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or other business-oriented field.
- Will consider relevant experience in lieu of education.
- Candidates will participate in assessments that are specific to position skillset needs.
