Overview
The Sr. Manager Accounting provides finance and accounting direction to business operations, including the financial operations and reporting for a regional remit. The role directly reports to the regional finance lead and routinely interacts with the regional operation leads and business development leads.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the broad range of Financial and Accounting deliverables for a single or multiple country region of the business with significant (> US$150M) operating income.
- Influence business strategy, business decisions and outcomes using logic and insights gained from financial analysis.
- Development of direct reports with maintained succession plan for role
- Manage financial reporting process to ensure the reporting meets management requirements; reporting is in line with corporate and accounting practices; reporting is timely and accurate for monthly/quarterly actual results, forecasts and plans.
- Oversee the monthly financial close activities including balance sheet, income statement, cash flow forecasting, review of journal entries, account analysis and reconciliations, preparation of department cost and overhead reports and other financial and accounting activities.
- Support all functional groups as necessary to obtain and execute company projects.
- Assure staffing and training of qualified finance and accounting resources to provide complete financial support to the organization.
- Team management and development including career development, timely completion of staff performance appraisals, and supervision of professional and staff level employees.
- Oversite may include some of all of the following financial sub-functions: general accounting; project costs; financial reporting; payroll; fixed assets; accounts receivable/payable; manage bank relationships; oversee and provide strategic input regarding taxation and treasury management.
- Administer company policies and assure financial and accounting processes adequately safeguard the physical and financial assets of the organization.
- Prepare and submit all Government reporting requirements (GST, PST, etc.)
- Maintain internal controls in compliance with company and SOX requirements. Liaison with Internal and External Auditors.
Local Requirements
US (Non Union) Operations
This role is responsible for the broad range of Financial and Accounting activities and deliverables for the non-union USA Operation.
Four accounting team members directly report to this role with various levels of expertise and experience. The role indirectly works with/leads 6 additional staff members responsible for the CSA (Central and South Americas) region and the USA engineering group.
Specific Responsibilities
Project Accounting -
- This role is responsible for accurate reporting of multiple USA projects (~100 projects) with various levels of complexity. Project size on average varies from ~$100k to ~$400M
- Ability to communicate well and work together with multiple cross-functional project teams (e.g. project managers, project controls, supply chain, operations etc.)
- Ability to analyze & review which will provide the opportunity to provide feedback and financial guidance to various project teams
- Solid understanding of US GAAP project accounting techniques such as percentage of completion, change order bookings, downpayments and contingency releases etc.
- Support new opportunity bidding activity (bid financial support)
- Lead the annual plan process and reporting for the entire USA and CSA operations (~$400M-$500M annual sales)
- Lead the quarterly forecasting and reporting of integrated financial statements of the USA and CSA operations
- Work with the business development leads (Sales & Operations) to understand forecasting beyond existing projects (i.e. new business opportunities and likelihood of achieving them)
- A thorough understanding of overhead cost reporting and overhead cost recovery methods in the construction industry
- The non-union business is responsible for detailed overhead reporting for various USA fabrication yards, USA warehouses and the Engineering center (sometimes covering the entire business), this reporting is a key responsibility which requires constant attention and oversight.
- This role will work with all levels of management to create various useful reports and tools to enable constant monitoring which will allow us to find the root causes to unrecovered overhead costs.
- Good understanding of the cost base of fabrication yards, warehouses, engineering and various other functions is require
- Understanding of the SG&A base of the Non-Union group and various allocated costs
- Help/Advise management and create various reports which contribute to rigorous monitoring of SG&A cost base
- Help with reviewing various cost centers and departments with the view to save costs and reduce unrecovered costs
- Compliance contact for the group
- Oversee the collection and billing process
- Understand the make-up of our global allocations
- Monitor accounts payable and receivable balances
- Accruals and various reconciliations review and approve
- CPA Preferred
- This position is Exempt per US FLSA requirements
- 15-20 years of relevant experience; minimum 10 years in a management position
- Recognized 4 year Accounting degree (CMA, CGA, CA or MBA designation(s))
- Knowledge of ERP accounting software (JD Edwards or Oracle Cloud experience a plus)
- Experience with consolidation software (Hyperion Financial Management and Hyperion Financial Planning a plus)
- Experience in the Energy & Construction Industry a plus- Organizational Level: N-5+
