Provides technical expertise necessary to design all aspects of production, costs, quality, compliance to safety

guidelines, and environmental requirements for manufacturing.

Responsibilities

- Identifying and implementing enhancements and modifications to complex manufacturing operations

equipment and processes.

- Monitoring sophisticated equipment and process reliability; identifying and addressing problem areas.

- Providing supervision, coaching and development for operations staff and support areas.

- Leading engineering support on planning, development, operation, and maintenance of equipment,

processes, or facilities.

- Assesses errors that occur during change execution and takes action in correcting these errors.

- Conducts impact analyses to determine the effect change might have on the status of current production

environment.

- Implements routine changes to the production environment; documents the changes made.

- Prevents unauthorized or unintended deviations in compliance with that of change control policies.

Engineering - MFG: Knowledge of processes, techniques and methods of engineering in a manufacturing

environment; ability to design and implement materials, structures, machines, devices, systems and processes that

safely realize a desired objective or invention.

Level Extensive Experience:

- Trains others on most components of engineering as related to manufacturing.

- Guides others on the application of manufacturing industry and organizational best engineering practices

and explains their rationale.

- Facilitates the integration of engineering systems and applications for a manufacturing organization.

- Advises others on the key benefits, drawbacks and rationale for engineering standards, policies and

practices.

- Monitors the effectiveness and efficiency of processes and improves engineering operations performance.

- Works with various complex engineering operations in a manufacturing environment.

Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean

manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and

management processes.

Level Working Knowledge:

- Discusses considerations for work cell design and effectiveness monitoring.

- Finds solution for key technical and people problems associated with transformation to lean.

- Explains issues and considerations of implementing lean in own function or area.

Manufacturing Equipment: Knowledge of the electrical, mechanical and logistics equipment used in manufacturing;

- Participates in evaluation and selection of new equipment.

- Facilitates the coordination and integration of multi-vendor equipment environments.

- Analyzes equipment history; monitors overall machine performance; evaluates planned upgrades.

- Plans, tests and implements changes to manufacturing infrastructure and environment.

- Ensures that employees are qualified to operate equipment effectively and safely.

Manufacturing Processes: Knowledge of existing product manufacturing methods, technologies and processes;

ability to execute, plan, manage and monitor the entire manufacturing process.

Level Extensive Experience:

- Advises others using industry experience and benchmarks for methodology effectiveness.

- Develops best practices documentation for all major activities and tasks.

- Trains others on all major tasks and considerations for the full manufacturing process.

- Participates in measuring and monitoring new processes and technologies.

- Selects and optimizes specific methodologies for specific products.

- Evaluates benefits, drawbacks and appropriateness of alternative processes and technologies.

Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to

anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment.

- Documents common hardware, software and communications problems and likely resolutions.

- Troubleshoots typical technical problems in a specific area.

Summary Pay Range:

$108,834.00 - $163,252.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
