Overview:
Responsible for project development, cost estimating, constructability, and real estate activities. Overseeing the development of all projects or key initiatives that are directly related to the transmission system and transmission substations as well as asset replacement in support of an annual capital budget for LG&E/KU. Responsible for work planning execution, including development of project scope, budgets, schedules, contract strategy, constructability and Right-of-Way acquisition. This includes portfolio oversight for risks, opportunities, benchmarking to implement project strategies to support 1st quartile goals in cost management and reliability.
Project strategies should include coordination of each functional group and stakeholder and defining deliverables and resources to support each project activity to support the specific project requirements. Develops and implements processes and procedures related to estimating, TOM Model, project development, work execution and program/project close out. Provides direct supervision, training and development to employees. Provides strong influence and maintains positive relationships with support organizations that are critical support to the group's work product. Ensures safe work practices for the various types of field visits and inspections.
Requires professional knowledge, including environmental regulations, KY and VA utility regulations, the ability to testify at hearings; interpersonal and negotiation skills necessary to interact with governmental officials, key community leaders and individual property owners.
- Develops business insights based on analysis of results and communicates key findings to leadership to facilitate data-driven decision making. Integrates business insights into detailed project executions plans across the transmission portfolio.
- Ensures alignment with safety, financial, customer, reliability, and performance goals. Implements key performance measures, controls, and procedures to ensure consistent application of processes across functional groups.
- Responsible for the leadership and oversight developing project schedules to support required capital improvement required in-service dates. Team prepares detailed activity-based schedules for all transmission line and substation projects.
- Overall planning for portfolio planning of project in-service dates, budgeting, and plant in-service strategies for the portfolio.
- Oversees project development team and creates strategies to minimize costs growth and sets project working budget targets to keep us in market.
- Team provides estimates for all transmission and substation projects through-out the lifecyle of the projects. Always driving team to consistently increase accuracy and drive costs down.
- Conducts risk analysis involved in executing the projects based on uncertainties associated with the project scope.
- Works closely with other work groups to effectively monitor program changes and support successful project execution strategies. Focuses on project risks and implements appropriate courses of action to reduce risk.
- Manages quality and timely delivery of team deliverables.
- Establishes metrics, performance indicators, goals, processes, and performs benchmarking for continuous improvement integration.
- Ensure all projects are meeting business and corporate financial tracking responsibilities.
- Establish the business strategy for the transmission siting, right-of-way, and real estate group in support of the overall T&S and LG&E/KU strategies and goals.
- Ensure team is looking at acquiring future land right acquisition to support long term business needs to support the asset management strategy.
- Ensure that all required project land rights and permits are identified, obtained, maintained, and complied with throughout the project lifecycle to meet project deadlines and milestones.

- Ensure compliance with local, regional, state and federal siting, permitting, and licensing requirements and these requirements are built into the project execution strategies.

- May be assigned an LKE EPRT storm role during major storms and other emergencies when the Company needs to restore power or respond to other issues affecting customer service. This role may necessitate the need to work after hours, outside of normal schedule.

- Complies with all policies and standardBachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Project Management, Construction Management, Real Estate or another related field
- 10+ years of related experience in managing projects or experience in budgeting, scheduling, design, or construction management
- Minimum of 4 years of supervisory experience
- Proven project management skills with a record of effective implementation of cost, schedule and scope plans.
- Knowledge of contracts, legal agreements, KY and VA state utility regulations, real estate, and environmental regulations in a utility environment.
- Advanced degree in Engineering, Business, Construction, Environmental, or related field
- Professional Registrations
- Knowledge of electric utility transmission and substation systems
- Experience in implementing process enhancements and efficiencies.
- Knowledge of eminent domain process, KY and VA state utility regulations, real estate process, environmental regulations
- Accomplished public speaker with the ability to represent LG&E/KU before local, regional, state and federal officials and in hearings/public meetings.
- Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to supervisor a highly productive, multi-tasking work group. A thorough understanding of the company’s corporate structure, geography and land holdings is an asset to the individual holding this position. Must be able to engage all levels of internal and external stakeholders including cross-company functional activities.
