Basic Purpose
Ensures the delivery of superior customer service, with a particular emphasis on the timely and accurate
measurement of all energy flowing into and out of company power systems. Plans and coordinates
activities within Electric Meter Operations related to meter selection, installation, repair, ongoing
maintenance programs, engineering technical standards, and reliability standards. Builds and maintains
superior contractor and customer relations. Serves as a coach and mentor to metering engineers, leads,
foremen, and journeyman metering electricians/technicians. Performs very complex technical analyses
and calculations to support metering and communication technologies, especially for our largest
customers, generation sites, and retail open-access customers. Works with customers, professional
engineers, equipment vendors, and others to explain the company’s requirements and resolve difficult
issues.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Meter Installation and Maintenance
Recommends standards for installing meters on all new residential, commercial, · and industrial
customer accounts and assists staff in installing meters on all new large residential, medium, and
large commercial and industrial customer accounts.
- Designs and implements robust internal controls to ensure that meter installations are completed
in line with our technical standards and business procedures for new account establishment.
- Designs programs to ensure adequate meter maintenance to ensure timely and accurate
measurement of all energy flowing into and out of company power systems.
- Oversees the technical aspects of meter testing and repair of all types of meters to maintain
accuracy and extend the service life of meter assets wherever reasonable.
- Performs very complex technical analyses and calculations to support metering and
communication technologies, especially for our largest customers, generation sites, and retail
open-access customers.
- Performs and may lead the process for non-wires alternative solution analysis and locational net
benefit analysis for identified constraints on the electric distribution system and makes
recommendations as appropriate. 35%
Customer, Contractor, Engineer, and Vendor Relationships
- Develops positive relationships based on trust and technical accuracy with customers and their
representatives to enable proper equipment selection, resolve complex issues, and provide timely
service establishment.
- Performs site inspections and meetings in support of Meter Services or other company
employees to determine and resolve issues that occur when improper equipment is delivered or
installed in the field.
- Coordinates with new business development employees to quickly resolve customer issues and
provide timely service establishment. 20%
Meter Standards and Selection
- Recommends engineering technical meter standards for all classes of NV Energy electric
customers to ensure timely and accurate measurement of energy flowing into and out of
company power systems. This includes meters from the more common residential meter to
complex meters used in customer installations of distributed generation, Independent Power
Producers, selling to the company, and retail open access meters requiring real-time
communications to multiple parties.
- Participates in the recommendation of appropriate technology in the bidding, evaluation, and
contracting processes for the purchase of all types of meters used at NV Energy. 15%

- Researches and recommends the highest priority, cost-effective changes in metering technology.
- Implements all policies, processes, systems, and procedural changes to ensure changes are
implemented as designed and that the proper internal controls and documentation are in place.

with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company. 15%

Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in engineering and 8 years utility industry
experience as a practicing engineer. Professional Engineer license required or must have at least 10
years utility industry experience as a practicing engineer if no Professional Engineer license.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of:
- Complex electrical engineering concepts
- Complex engineering and cost analyses
- Metering programing and system monitoring applications.
- Managing multiple tasks, communication, customer relations.
- Ability to utilize electric system power flow simulation modeling software
