The
Advanced Meter Operations Specialistplays a pivotal role in supporting ENMAX Power Corporation’s (EPC) responsibilities in developing and maintaining critical Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) competencies. This role requires deep technical and business understanding in AMI architecture, Metering and functional aspects of Honeywell Headend Systems, ITRON hardware and systems, and related processes. Serving as a key liaison to the Meter Data Management Analyst and Metering teams, the specialist is responsible for advancing, maintaining, and evolving the AMI and Metering technologies.
Leveraging exceptional analytical, facilitation, communication, and organizational skills, the AMO Specialist oversees daily operational aspects of critical AMI competencies across Metering. The role involves monitoring the Honeywell NetSense technology data and output, its supported business processes, various integrated Metering functions essential to AMI and Metering operations. Acting as the business technical expert, this position provides high-level oversight for critical business systems and processes used by Meter Services, Meter Operations, Meter Reading and Metering Standards.
Major Responsibilities
- Provide business and technical leadership, influencing and motivating teams without direct organizational authority
- Responsible for devising design enhancements and maintenance to AMI and Metering hardware and system components in collaboration with IT/OT teams.
- Define business needs related to network design, reporting, cloud, security, cost management, and data analytics to support the growth and sustainability of ENMAX’s AMI system
- Accountable for performing system monitoring, security reviews, cost management, and optimization activities related to AMI.
- Lead and oversee Metering business unit objectives by working with other Metering and Field Services teams across EPC and Enterprise IT to further enhance business capabilities through tools and technologies available at ENMAX.
- Define the business needs for the various support teams across Enterprise IT, EPC Business Technology Services, OT, external vendors (Honeywell, Rogers, ITRON, etc.) and Regulated Market Services to ensure optimal and secure, scalable systems that will become the backbone of our metering functions.
- Oversee the troubleshooting of the Metering lab, Metering shop and Quality inspectors and external vendors for any problems or issues.
- Oversee and lead troubleshooting, analysis, and fault isolation support required to triage and resolve complex AMI and Metering systems issues that impede AMI communications, and the collection of critical data required to deliver precise and timely billing information.
- Define the standards, contribute to the SOPs and SWOPs, and ensure the work completed by CUPE and IBEW adheres to their requirements (Metering programs, Router builds, NetSense headend system.)
- Act as the Data Steward and Data Consumer in the development of reporting requirements and design dashboards that capture key metrics to reflect network performance, AMI meter data collection, and other Metering Systems.
- Oversee daily Metering system health checks and verification routines that ensure the highest levels of AMI systems integrations, technical errors, and data availability.
- Plan and define the development and ongoing refinement of processes, procedures, reporting, and tools required to proactively support and sustain AMI Network operations.
- Act as the business lead to support other technical teams including BTS, OT, Network and Security Operations, etc.- Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, IT, or related field with 8+ years relevant experience or - Technical Diploma in Electrical Engineering, IT, or related field with 10+ years relevant experience
- 8 + years of progressive application support or data development experience including a strong understanding of RMS, metering and cloud technologies.
- Proven communication, collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Advanced knowledge of AMI systems, metering technologies, and data management.
- Demonstrated understanding of the electrical industry including metering metering, metering data, and their related applications, infrastructure, and radio technologies.
- Advanced Data Analytics and Reporting including in depth understanding of DataBricks, Fabric, PowerBI
- Working familiarity with RMS, EMLS, Maximo, Honeywell, and ITRON systems.
- Proven ability to lead cross functional initiatives and influence without formal authority.
- Advanced Data Analytics and Reporting capabilities to identify patterns, support decision making and improve system performance
- Strong understanding and application of project delivery frameworks and methodologies.
- Ability to analyze complex data and translate technical findings into business insights.
- Comfortable navigating project delivery frameworks and working across multiple teams.
- Aptitude for adapting to new technologies and leading continuous improvement.
- Effective communicator with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to guide peers, facilitate cross-functional collaboration, and drive results without formal organizational authority.

Salary:
Analyst Level D (Current CUPE 2025 rates)
$115,556.35 - $122,777.38 - $129,998.41- $137,219.45 - $144,440.48
Location:
This position will be part of our hybrid (home and office) work force with office workspace located at ENMAX Place (141 - 50th Avenue SE, Calgary, AB). You will work from home on Mondays and Fridays and in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
