Job Overview
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Sr. Draftsperson- Electrical
.Reporting to the Manager Design Engineering, this position is responsible for preparing all types of electrical drawings and sketches for equipment and electrical systems, for the purpose of design, procurement of materials, fabrication and installation in a nuclear generating station utilizing Computer- Aided Drafting system (CADS) technology.
Key Accountabilities
- Accountable for health, safety and well being of self and others in accordance with technical/operating procedures and standards, and includes the development of technical/operating solutions to problems.
- Accountable for self-checking to prevent and catch errors.
- Obtain reference data, from files, associates or other groups. Review the preparation or production assignment to understand instructions and to determine a logical work approach. Study the given assignment to understand the scope and limits of detail drawing required. Perform calculations as necessary, using the principles of algebra, geometry and trigonometry or special formulae, which are supplied, with instructions of use. Refer to supervisor for guidance when conflicting or missing detail is encountered or production problems cannot be resolved. Contact other groups as directed to clarify problems or obtain missing information. Proceed with the preparation of drawings and resolve technical problems encountered.
- Participate in plant walk downs to ensure configuration management is supported.
- Prepare all types of electrical drawings using CADS technology: a) To portray modifications to established design schemes of apparatus, equipment and materials as to location, size, clearances, support quantity. b) To portray assembly for high and low voltage switching structures, grounding, lightning protection, allocation and routing of power/control cables and duct systems, prepare cable pans and conduit drawings), building services (power supplies, lighting, receptacle, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) switchboards (control metering and relaying) and provision for such miscellaneous systems as telephone, public address radio communication, LAN cabling, security alarms and fire detection and control based on established design drawings and general requirement.
- Prepare Bills of Material, material lists, listing such features as material description, make and catalogue number, code markings and quantity for each different type of material shown on the drawings. Perform any necessary calculations. Make use of catalogues or the given data to compile the required detail.
- Provide verification checklists for safety related systems. Requires an understanding of channelization discrepancies (cable separation between channels, groups, and voltages. Ensure new cables have not been routed in overloaded cable trays. Status on line wiring to current built installations.
- Show others, internal and external personnel, how the CADS work stations operate. Demonstrate the use of equipment, operating techniques, etc., to interested parties.
- 2 or 3 year diploma in Electrical Technician or Technologist
- Up to 10 years drafting experience
- Proficiency using AutoCAD interface and Microsoft Office
- Experience with Online – Wiring Database (preferred)
- Strong written and verbal communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills for the purpose of gathering and relaying information, resolving issues of concern
- Good organizational and leadership skills, and to be a self-starter who can work both independently and in a team environment
- Results and detail oriented individual

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions.
