The Sr. Project Accountant is responsible for collecting, developing, analyzing, and reporting information related to major capital construction projects. In addition, this position is responsible for preparation of monthly payment requests, coordination of contractor change orders, payments, contracts, and waivers/affidavits. This position requires strong technical accounting skills, the ability to interpret complex data, explain forecast and budget variances, and complete financial reports in compliance with requirements of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and various regulatory agencies including Rural Utilities Services (RUS), Kentucky Public Service Commission (KPSC), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), as well as the policies established by East Kentucky Power Cooperative.
- Develops, tracks, and reports key performance metrics for major capital projects.
- Reviews, analyzes, and interprets contracts, and identifies commercial requirements of contractors (e.g., pay terms, change orders, waivers/affidavits, wage rate compliance, etc.).
- Collects, reviews, and processes contractor/supplier monthly project invoices; ensures invoices have been received or accrued properly and timely to the correct cost reports and phase codes.
- Ensures timely, accurate payments to contractors and suppliers.
- Processes cost transfers on project cost reports.
- Prepares internal and external financial reports, explains relevant accounting transactions, and resolves accounting issues and discrepancies.
- Actively participates in and supports strategic projects throughout the year.
- Recommends and implements improvements in efficiency and effectiveness.
- Records, classifies, and summarizes financial transactions and events in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Ensures compliance with GAAP and IRS requirements.
- Assists in the annual audit process and provides documentation as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor¿s degree in a related area required.
- Advanced degrees and/or certifications, including CPA, preferred.
- Thorough knowledge and application of accounting principles and compliance.
- Knowledge of electric utility accounting, RUS, and PSC regulations preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of project financial planning and budgeting.
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate effectively.
