Purpose & Scope of The Position:
The Sourcing Specialist role leads the procurement of materials and services from retail and wholesale vendors to sustain site operations. This role plans, directs, and manages all operations related to strategic procurement activities. They develop, review, and approve administrative, purchasing, and clerical procedures. Sourcing Specialists work to save the company money by evaluating bids and finding discounts and wholesale rates. They combine purchasing power of multiple mine sites to obtain the necessary supplies and services needed to operate efficiently.
The Sourcing Specialist role searches for the highest quality merchandise at the lowest possible purchase cost. This role evaluates vendors based on reputation, cost, quality, service, availability, reliability, and selection variety. They examine catalogs, commerce publications, and directories in order to find the right vendors. While at meetings, trade shows, and conferences, they inspect products and services, evaluate availability and distribution capabilities, and consider all other aspects that may influence purchasing decisions.
The Sourcing Specialist is the owner of Commodity Management categories as designed and implemented by the Supply Chain Leader. Effective Sourcing Specialists help companies meet planned financial and operational objectives/projections.
- Support, develop, and monitor Purchasing Policy, Procedures, and Cost Controls.
- Research and review strategic procurement options for materials and services, working in consultation with company managers, in order to effect continuous business improvement and achieve the best value for the company, and securing savings through effective contract management.
- Take a strategic role in the development and delivery of departmental objectives, performance indicators, and benchmarking exercises, ensuring that data is collated, analyzed, reported, and actioned as appropriate.
- Identifies and selects vendors to procure requisitioned commodities, meeting criteria such as price, quantity, quality, delivery date, and places orders.
- Identifies requesting departments’ needs and develops specifications for commodities, supplies, or equipment.
- Coordinates with maintenance staff to schedule material requirements for maintenance.
- Maintain and report purchasing performance metrics to Supply Chain Manager.
- Meet with Maintenance and Operations to review mid-and long-term schedules.
- Establishes foreign and domestic vendors.
- Administers Commodity Management programs.
- Negotiates the best value.
- Administer online e-purchasing systems.
- Leads Vendor Performance Reviews.
- Appraises products and services.
- Tracks the price for materials and services.
- Determines if materials will be repaired or scrapped after proper analysis.
- Pro-actively assists the delivery and management of the Procurement Strategy and Procurement Policy.
- Establishes and maintains an effective network with other organizations to identify value for money initiatives, and improves opportunities for procurement, providing an effective interface between the company and contractors.
- Prepares annual budgets, in accordance with company policies and procedures, ensuring that sufficient resources are available to meet known and future procurement requirements.
- Assembles the yearly site procurement plan.
- Interviews sales representatives to develop new sources of technical supplies, securing favorable terms; secures samples, descriptions, photos or information for departments.
- Prepares bid specifications.
- Issues bid requests and reviews quotations.
- Leads writing and distribution of complex and technical bid invitations or requests for proposals; receives and analyzes bids, quotes, proposals, and supports PO / P-Card process.
- Creates contracts for service and material purchases.
- Actions asset disposal process by identifying and executing best asset disposal decisions for recommended items.
- Resolves purchasing problems between departments and vendors.
- Investigates and develops sources of supplies.
- Consistent exercise of discretion and judgment in job performance.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures including but not limited to safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
- Maintains a high commitment to personal safety and integrity of the environment.
- Analyzes market conditions to stay abreast of changing conditions that could alter the supply or the demand for specific materials.
- Perform additional duties as needed to support the success of Robinson Nevada Mining Company and KGHM.
- Experience:
- At least 3-5 years of purchasing/supply chain experience in the mining or heavy construction industries.
- Extensive management experience of pursuing strategic procurement projects within a similar environment, dedicated to providing detailed services and works contracts, involving drafting tenders, negotiating and establishing contracts, and undertaking the commercial evaluation of complex tender bids.
- Provide examples of achievements in securing savings through effective category management.
- Licenses: Valid driver’s license.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and/or Business Management or Equivalent.
- Experience:
- Prior experience as an Ariba tender operator.
- Prior experience handling site service and material needs.
- Licenses: One or more of the following: APICS(CSCP) or local regional/national certifications is preferred or must be obtained within twenty-four months of hire.
- Experience with Microsoft Office.
- Experience with financial, inventory, and ERP systems.
- Knowledge of purchasing practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of materials, products, and the commodity market.
- Knowledge of regional and national influences on products and vendor markets.
- Knowledge of foreign languages (if any), applicable to site location.
- Knowledge of technical requirements.
- Knowledge of contract management principles.

- Mechanical Commodity background is preferred.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment physical, including drug and alcohol testing.
- Ability to meet the required physical demands, exerting 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or 15 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly.
