Job Summary:
The Solar Service Technician / Installer is responsible for installing, maintaining, and servicing solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for residential and commercial properties. This role involves fieldwork, including troubleshooting solar systems, performing routine maintenance, repairing faulty components, and ensuring installations are completed safely, efficiently, and to code. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and experienced in working with electrical systems and solar technologies who will work closely with project managers and clients to ensure high-quality installations that meet industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
•Install solar PV systems including panels, inverters, mounting systems, and electrical wiring.
•Perform routine maintenance and diagnostic service on existing solar systems.
•Troubleshoot and repair issues related to solar performance, wiring, connectivity, and electrical components.
•Conduct system testing, commissioning, and ensure functionality per design specifications.
•Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and electrical diagrams.
•Communicate with customers regarding system performance, repairs, and maintenance needs.
•Ensure all work complies with local building and electrical codes, OSHA safety standards, and company policies.
•Maintain accurate service records and complete job documentation.
•Coordinate with office staff, engineers, and inspectors as needed.
•Keep tools, equipment, and service vehicles clean, organized, and in working condition.
Qualifications:
•2 years of experience in solar installation, electrical work, or related field preferred.
•Experience with inverters, combiner boxes, including high voltage and low voltage applications is highly desirable.
•Familiarity with construction site safety practices and protocols.
•Proficiency in blueprint reading to accurately follow installation plans.
•Ability to work at heights, on roofs, and in varying weather conditions.Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
•Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective teamwork.
•Certification or training in solar installation or electrical work is a plus.
•Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
Work Environment:
•Outdoor fieldwork in a variety of weather conditions.
•Physical labor including lifting, climbing, and kneeling.
•Use of ladders, power tools, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Physical Requirements:
•Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
•Comfortable working on roofs and ladders for extended periods.
•Ability to work in confined spaces and stand for long durations.
