Northback is a Canadian company focused on the development of the Grassy Mountain steelmaking coal project in Crowsnest Pass, Alberta.
We are currently seeking an experienced Site Manager to join our team in Crowsnest Pass. Reporting to the Senior Manager Safety, Health & Environment, the Site Manager is accountable for overseeing site safety, access control, security, land and tenure management, and fixed and mobile asset maintenance. This role will supervise members of the health, safety, and security team and will be responsible for managing contractors and budgets related to work in these areas.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Health, Safety, and Security
•Leading day-to-day operations of safety and security workforce and contractors
•Continuous improvement of site Emergency Response Plan and corporate Emergency Management Plan, and Crisis Management Plan
•Administering Northback's incident investigation process and maintaining relevant training
•Managing the continuous improvement of the Safety & Health Management System
Site Management
•Administrating the Access Management Plan and serving as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, agencies, and the public for land-related inquiries
•Administering and maintaining Road Use Agreements, Access Agreements, and Grazing Leases
•Monitoring and maintaining permanent and temporary land dispositions (LOCs, RTFs, etc.)
Project and Asset Management
•Management of budget, schedule, and quality of third-party contractors including industrial medical services, security, and maintenance contractors
•Managing road maintenance and construction projects
•Maintaining and inspecting fixed and mobile assets including buildings, vehicles, communication systems, roads, fences, erosion and sediment controls, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
•Diploma or Certificate Program in Occupational Health & Safety or related discipline (equivalent combination of education and mining or construction safety experience also considered)
•10+ years of safety-related work experience in the heavy construction and/or mining industries
•Demonstrated experience managing site activities for construction projects, mining sites, or other large infrastructure projects
•Demonstrated experience developing and continuously improving safety and health systems and workplace safety culture
•Advanced understanding of Alberta’s Occupational Health & Safety legislation, including knowledge of Alberta’s mine safety legislation, and ability to interpret and apply legislative requirements to complex work environments
•Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Concur, SAP, and safety software)
•Valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract
•Capable of multiple physical demands including lifting (up to 25 kg), hiking, entering and exiting equipment, and working at heights
•Strong schedule management skills with the ability to navigate conflicting priorities and deliver on critical deadlines
•Demonstrated strength in critical thinking and decisive action in high stress situations
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills (this role is required to speak publicly and engage with members of the public)
•Comfortable working in various environmental conditions, inclement weather, and rough terrain for extended periods of time
LOCATION
Crowsnest Pass is a mountain community located two hours south of Calgary, Alberta. The area has a population of 6,100 and offers numerous services, including a 24-hour emergency, acute, and continuing care hospital, schools from kindergarten to grade 12, a sports complex, a championship golf course, major banks/credit union, restaurants, and supermarkets. Crowsnest Pass is famous for its spectacular mountain vistas and is a favourite destination for downhill and cross-country skiing, hiking, climbing, mountain biking, caving, fly fishing and hunting.
