Currently, our Reactor Programs Division has a Senior Technical Specialist temporary opportunity. The Reactor Programs division is accountable for the preparation of forced and planned outage schedules in order to meet the goals and objectives of our preventative maintenance program and life-cycle management plan.
The Senior Technical Specialist supports the Section, Department and Division with business initiatives, business metrics, corporate contracts and other administrative or technical support. The Senior Technical Specialist shall perform other duties as directed by the Section Manager.
This is a temporary position which may be for a period of up to 18 months, offers a competitive compensation package and is located on-site in Tiverton, Ontario.
Key Responsibilities:
•Leading as OE and/or providing expert input into complex, multi-disciplinary primary reactor side projects (including providing mentorship to less experienced OEs)
•Act as a subject matter expert for the significant process design changes required to execute the legacy registrations and associated testing requirements
•Coordinate with technical vendors and OEMs to deliver sound technical solutions and capabilities to support Bruce Power long term goals and objectives
•Provide coaching and mentorship to less experienced engineers to develop additional ADE/OE capabilities and support projects and initiatives within SECRD and DPTMCD
•Provide sound technical advice to managers during both emergent and non-emergent scenarios based on engineering fundamentals while staying within the design and licensing basis
•Provide coverage for managers as required and acting as technical authority interfacing with other functional groups and vendors
•Understand the variety of factors that can affect the unit operation, plant thermal performances and major component operating efficiencies and respectively communicating findings to enable business decisions
•Represent Bruce Power in industrial forums (such as CSA, COG, EPRI, ASME, etc.) and provide technical presentations to promote Bruce Power design engineering
Knowledge and Skills:
•Demonstrate in depth knowledge of CANDU nuclear power plant process systems especially relating to pressure retaining systems with in-depth knowledge and experiences with primary reactor side systems
•Expert knowledge in CSA N285.0-12, AMSE Section III, and associated codes and standards and its practical application
•Expert knowledge in implementing design changes to primary reactor side station systems
•Provide past engineering experiences including process design changes, ASME code related design changes along with significant demonstrated experience of successful regulatory interactions
•Monitoring and reviewing latest industry technologies/practices to improving site efficiency
•Past performance of the role of Owner’s Engineer (OE) and managing project related work
•Demonstrated ability to oversee and manage vendor work
•Strong leadership skills and high degree of accountability and engagement
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Demonstrated ability to interact positively with others by developing trust, mutual respect and co-operative working relationships
•Commitment to continuous improvement
•A history of demonstrating strong analytical, problem solving, and decision making capability
•A high degree of initiative, self-motivation, flexibility and the ability to work with minimal guidance in a team environment
•Knowledge on the design inputs such as basic functional requirements, performance requirements, safety goals and safety principles, applicable codes, standards and regulatory requirements, design conditions, loads such as seismic loads, interface requirements, etc.
•Knowledge on the design outputs such as specifications, design limits, operating limits, safety limits, failure or fitness for service criteria
•Knowledge on the design calculations which demonstrate the adequacy of the design and the ability to reproduce the design calculations if needed
•An understanding of the inspections, analysis, testing, and computer code validation and acceptance criteria used by participating design organizations to verify that the design output meets the design requirements
•An understanding of the implications of operating experience on the design
Education and Experience:
•This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of 4 years of University training (Grade XII plus 5 years).
•Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) within the Province of Ontario is an asset
•A period of over 6 years and up to and including 8 years is considered necessary to gain this experience
