We are currently hiring a Senior Storekeeper to join the team at our Underground Salt Mine in Goderich, Ontario.

Compass Minerals’ Goderich Salt Mine, located 1,800 feet under Lake Huron, is the largest underground salt mine in the world. The mine is as deep as the CN Tower in Toronto is tall. The rock salt produced at the mine is used to keep citizens in North America safe as they travel through winter snow and ice. The salt is shipped to hundreds of communities around the Great Lakes and along the St. Lawrence Seaway. Some of the salt is trucked to the Compass Minerals plant less than 4 kilometers away, to be packaged for distribution and sale at retailers in North America. The salt is also sold in bulk to manufacturers that make plastics, detergents, disinfectants and other important products.

Goderich is named Canada’s Prettiest Town and is best known for its stunning sunsets. Goderich is a lakeside community of 8,000 people located approximately 1.5 hours from London and Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario.

HOW WILL YOU CONTRIBUTE TO THE TEAM?

The Senior Storekeeper works with the Procurement team to manage inventory on surface and underground, and to perform parts distribution. Additionally, this position will be in charge of the on-shift Material Handler. This position will pick parts, prepare kits, coordinate with appropriate employees, locate parts, and facilitate team decisions.

Supervise the unionized Material Handler in the performance of their job tasks including providing pre and post shift direction

Ensure weekly toolbox talks and monthly safety meetings are performed by all personnel in their charge, know and follow the company’s policies, procedures and standards for work and safety.
Conduct SafeStart observations to identify potential safety hazards of their work area including underground stores compound.
Ensure monthly safety audits are completed as outlined and scheduled by the EHS department.
Knowledge of both Surface and Underground working environment
Counter service including; issues, returns, and parts searches performed in a timely and efficient manner to ensure high levels of production from employees.
Receive parts and services, efficiently and accurately in a computerized environment.
Prepare repair material for outbound shipment and communicate to the Stores Superintendent for action
Active participation in Continuous improvement and housekeeping activities
Stock expediting in conjunction with the Stores Superintendent.
Demonstrate compliance and support of EH&S, productivity, leadership, and influence (fostering a respectful work environment), resource management, functional excellence, and customer service.
Be flexible with shift work hours and overtime at either the Underground and Surface Stores locations as required
Perform other related duties as required.

WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING TO THE ROLE?

Grade 12 Diploma required
3 years of experience in a similar role required
Operation of pallet jack is preferred
Knowledge of arrangement of materials is preferred
Visual controls in parts storage is preferred
Supervisor Common Core training required – training will be provided
Supervisor Health and Safety training certificate – training will be provided
Experience working in Unionized environment considered an asset
Excellent communication skills, detail-orientation and problem-solving skills required
Professional communication skills, both written and verbal
Enthusiastic team player who is easily adaptable and able to work with individuals at a variety of levels within the organization

WHAT IS THE WORK SCHEDULE?

This position will work a 12-hour rotating work shift schedule including days, nights, and weekends. Overtime may be required to efficiently support the operation.
This position will work underground.
