OVERVIEW
We are seeking an operations-focused Staff Accountant with a strong project accounting/ job costing background. This is a full-time permanent position located in Edmonton, AB. This is a newly created position ideal for a driven accountant who can take ownership of month end close and lead accounting and finance duties for assigned operating companies. In addition to supporting operating companies, the scope includes reporting to group/ head office and opportunities to participate in high-visibility special projects and initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
•Manage full-cycle accounting operations, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, banking, payroll, intercompany, fixed assets, and financial reporting
•Manage the month-end and year-end close process for associated companies, including preparation/ review of journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations and all related working papers/ supporting schedules
•Responsible for timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, reports, and regulatory/ statutory filings to external agencies/ authorities in compliance with ASPE and industry standards
•Support Controller and GM on preparing monthly commentary and analysis to group and head office
•Lead financial processes in support of client project execution, which includes but is not limited to project setup, maintenance, invoicing, project reporting and project closure
•Collaborate with cross-functional project team and provide guidance, oversight and follow up on any project billing or costing discrepancies as needed; ensure no leakage on billable job costs
•Support and augment project staff, provide earned value analysis and report on estimate/ as-sold to actual; challenging assumptions/ status quo, ensure adherence to contract terms and conditions; identify change order/ margin enhancement opportunities
•Monitor customer A/R, customer credit limit and exposure management, reporting on cash collections, escalating problem accounts to relevant stakeholders as per company policy and drive resolution
•Provide coverage for payroll, A/P and any other accounting duties among team as necessary; support, cross-train with and cover extended accounting team as required
•Mentor project, clerical and administrative staff, providing guidance, oversight, training, and foster continuous improvement mindset and support professional development
•Responsible for the periodic review and update of various allocation rates for indirects and overheads
•Support implementation of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity
•Recommend process improvements to streamline workflows and optimize resource utilization
•Contribute and develop means to track new and strategic information to assist with decision making; support with assessing and presenting underlying performance of the business.
•Collaborate with Controller, GM and VP Finance to support various business objectives and strategic initiatives
•Any other tasks or projects under the direction of Controller, GM, VP Finance and senior management
SKILLS, REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
•A minimum of 3-5 years of full-cycle accounting experience in similar role
•2+ years’ experience in a project accounting, job costing or similar position is
•Post secondary education in Business Admin, Accounting or Finance
•Working towards a professional accounting designation (CPA) is an asset
•Advanced Excel skills required, experience with SUMIFS, LOOKUPS and PIVOT TABLES
•Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to manage multiple tasks, work under pressure and meet deadlines
